The bottom generator is a Coleman 237 and has an "I" inscribed on the side of the jet. The top generator came in a Coleman 236 box (old stock) but it is not a 236, as these jets have a triangle symbol on the side of the jet. This generator has a "J" inscribed on the side of the jet. All the other Coleman generators I have do not have this inscription. Can someone illuminate me as to which generator it is?
I am not aware of any Coleman gas tips marked with a J. One of the Canadian collectors some years ago created a comprehensive spread sheet of generators with sizes and tip marks. It includes details of the models and in most cases for obsolete type a modern alternative. There is no J tip listed. 639 should have E or C on the tip. 236 is a triangle and 237 is I. ::Neil::
Check this site from Doron: It has tip markings and then in another tab it has the different generator lengths, width, etc. Hope this helps, Dan http://coleman.pressure-lanterns-il.com
Well, I have never seen a "J" tip. Just from looking at the generator, copared to the 237 one you have next to it, I am guessing it is a 639. It's longer then a 220 gen. And it is thicker then say a 621,625,635 style gen. That left the 639 as my guess. How long is it?
Having looked at my 639 lantern's generator the jet has a C stamped on it. The new 639 generator I have has no stamping on the jet. Comparing the "J" stamped generator in question, it is physically the same as the other 639 generators. The new generator jet, on the outside is slightly different but the jet hole seems to be the same. So Flash, you are correct on it being a 639, Thanks
Hey no problem. Coleman is my specialty. Petromax/aida stuff is the stuff I need help with. Any Coleman related stuff just ask.
