There was a discussion about possibility of using instead of Viton rubber seals the silicone rubber seals. Viton rubber (apart of the seals made to the size) is available in sheets -- for instance 1x5 meters. I think nobody of the CPL members has enough lamps to use the whole sheet for seals... The silicon rubber one may get in form of baking pans and kitchen tools (for instance in some Swedish store, which sells flat packed furniture ) Silicone rubber bowl Maybe for non-return valve seal this thing would be OK as a donor of material... Properties of silicone rubber: High temperature resistance -60°C to +200°C (sometimes to +315°C), High oil, steam and chemicals resistance, High electrical spark resistance, Dampening of vibrations (hi & lo freq.), High aging resistance, High weather resistance, Hardness to 50° in Shor'es scale. Properties of Viton rubber: High temperature resistance (from -40°C to +204°C; short periods up to 315°C), High pulling stress resistance, High fire, weather, oxygen and ozone resistance, Hardness to 75° in Shor'es scale. It seems that silicone rubber is much softer, so -- maybe -- repeated tightening and unscrewing the fuel cap may damage the seal (or not -- I'm going to try ) ________________________ Disclaimer: I will not accept eventual complaints of CPL members spouses, for stripping their kitchens of silicone rubber items.
