Hi A long time ago I bought this Aida without knowing anything about Aida at all. Thought they were like Petromax - but no. I dont know how much is origin but the parts with name Aida. Can anyone help me finding the errors so I can correct them please Now it gets ugly:
Thanks Karli, I had a sneaking suspecion that a swede was involved. I dont know about the "super" but I guess I need a new old top with blue? enameled hood. Wasn't it chromed from the start too? I once read that the Petromax and Aida was constructed by Hirshhorn and Gratz after they had been working together making the first pressurelamp and Petromax and Aida basically is the same lamp - but this needle-stick-system looks very different from the usual Petromax-system and I am really not sure if it isnt a old fettling-job though it looks origin. I is difficult to take apart - not at all "super" but in a charming way Do you think the rest looks origin? The pump-knob looks and works a bit odd to me you see? Can you put an age on it? Claus C
Hallo Claus, Well you know by know that you have a frankenlamp. The top is with the typical square vent holes from optimus. It look as if it was made side bu side the petromax lanterns. Top , I guess, should be a normal chrome one with AIDA logo. A top of a petromax would fit. What you have as "normal" parts ? I don't know.
Thanks Wimve. If I look in the lamp-reference gallery I can see a 103 express. It is chromed and as you say - that is probably the origin surface. OK. I will certainly not put on a Petromax-hood unless it is the same as the original. I can find NO Petromax-hoods looking like the 103-hood in the lamp-referencegallery - so that would just be the same as exchanging the plague with cholera. I had a suspicion from start that it was a frankenlamp therefor the Maintitle Aida 103 Frankenlamp, but what is original and what is not? What has been fettled and what have not? Fx. again the Needle-stick system - I think it is a very odd system and cant figure out if it is original or old fettlingjob. I cannot judge it from the photo at the gallery, while ex. the Preheater/booster-controlknob is a total other handle than my lamps handle, so what could else more be different. I have tried to find links here on cpl to Aidas and so far only found 1 with a photo like the one in the lamp-gallery. I thougth it was possible to find lots of photos of this lamp - but now I guess not Claus C
Ok looking at this: And comparing to jet of this Aida 214: http://0flo.com/index.php?threads/613 makes me beleive that the original needle-tip has been cut of and a new coil for a P-max needle is made to screw on. It also looks like a P-max'ish jet is screwed on. I think that might be the fettling Karli suggest to do or something like that, if necessary. Thanks a lot Neil. The rockervalve, the controlknob, the fount and the outer of the vapourizer looks origin to me. So I will stick to your dating and try to find a hood for the lamp. I guess the pump-knob is a un-origin part too, I am not sure, but it the pump-knob dont go well into the lock of the collar, so I might also go look for one with a reindeer stamped on I suppose. Thanks Karli - I know you have some of these aida's so I believe you are right about the pump-knob. So now I just have to find a tagestell and a hood If anyone have some hood-spares for a ureasonable price then please let me know Claus C
