Hello I got myself a Coleman 226 lamp a while back and it will not light.It holds pressure very well. Have tried a new generator.Using Coleman #20 mantles.Have tried 20 pumps, 30 pumps etc. Fuel is Aspen 4. When I open the valve I can hear air escaping.I follow the instructions to the letter. Shall I dunk it in water to see where the air is coming out ? Gasket is new.I have also 5 kerosene lamps and they have never given me any trouble when fettling them.But now I'm stuck. Bjørn
Hi Could be a problem with the fuel pick up pipe , best to check that first thing seeing as everything else is in good order Stu
Thanks Stu Ok so maybe the former owner has used some "dirty" fuel. Then the valve assy has to come off the tank. Doesn't it ? Hopefully I will not have to heat the tank to do this. Do I clean it with compreesed air ? Bjørn
Bjorn, sounds like the pickup is blocked at the bottom where it picks the fuel up,,,,but the air outlet at the top of the pickup pipe is clear, The valve assy should come off the tank ok, wrap the valve in a towel in a vice and gently turn the tank unscrewing it, hopefully a soak in thinners will dissolve any stale fuel that has turned to a varnish and a blow out with compressed air should clear any muck.
I agree with the above posts about being a blocked pickup. Some Coleman lanterns had a coating inside the tank that would flake off. then it would stick to the bottom of the fuel/air tube. Check inside the fount and see if it is clean. But the above posts are correct you have a fuel pickup problem.
Thanks gentlemen The Coleman 226 is now working.Cleaned the pickup tube of the valve assy several times and installed a new generator.
