    Hi All

I just got this Coleman 169k through the post from fellow lampie James , I have had a look through several galleries on the web & there seems to be a bit of ambiguity on the model 169k i hope i have , I'm just waiting for Neil to see this post & put me right before i post it in the reference gallery here :D  any idea of manufacturing date would be a big help too as my knowledge on these is a bit minimal  .

I have also realised that this model should run on Kero i think  ( i took it that the R55 vapouriser meant that it runs on white gas , & it does very well  ) , but no harm done :D  Both use the external pump nestled between the two founts :D

The fount is a bit of a dodgy poop brown colour ( I have been an expert on this recently due to the Norovirus  ) & will give it a light soapy water wipe over so as not to lose the patina just the little bit of grime since i've been handling it  workshop grime that is

I have put the early CQ in the pic's to show the slight height/size difference between the two models :D  & the two control cocks/ burner to tank joins , the CQ's is a bit more rounded in the first pic.

The 169k's shade holder is different from the CQ's too I think this usually holds a 355 globe , i have two shades on the way for these lamps & will post some more pic's when they're fitted :D

    My repro CQ holder :D

    & the 169K's

Both lamps working well on white gas/ panel wipe :D

    I'll try the 169K on kero/paraffin later :D

Very nice! R55 generators were used for Kero as well. My 168K runs on one.

Hi Stu, glad you got the lamp safely. From what I seem to remember it is stamped 9 36 near the logo on the side which means the date of manufacture is September 1936.

Hello Stu, the 169K is a well built lamp, but it will work better with Coleman fuel than it will with paraffin.

The Amish mix might be okay though and I think that is 80 percent paraffin and 20 percent Coleman fuel.

Some members of this website have used the Amish mix and they will have a better idea of the percentages of the mix. Jeff.

169 is a kero lamp but like a lot of Coleman kero stuff it will work OK on naphtha. The R55 generator is a gasoline type and the 169 burner is modified to accomodate the heavier fuel with this gasoline generator. Have a close look at the two burners you have. On the central mixer tube between the point where the generator enters and the casting there should be two tiny dimples in the 169 and none on the CQ. This is to hold in place an inserted restrictor inside the 169 air tube which changes the mixture slightly to enable a better burn with kero. ::Neil::
