I'm renewing a Hipolito 502 and upon dis-assembly and cleaning, I noticed that the upper vaporizer has a distinct bend to it. The conducting rod seems to follow this bend. Is this normal? It is a rather stout part and even seems to have a stiffener bar soldered to it. Also, it fits perfectly into the inner hood opening (and probably would not fit if it was straight ???). Regards, Dan
These generators do sometimes get bent like this. It is normally because at some stage the generator has been removed and re fitted slightly out of alignement and therefore the inner hood won't fit correctly. By forcing the inner hood to fit the generator gets distorted in use and ends up bent. It looks simple but in fact installing the generator has to be precise. Rotate it slightly and the inner hood will not lock down right. Having said all that it generally makes little difference and if the lamp works OK then don't fix it. ::Neil::
Thank you Jeff for taking the time to check your 502, and Neil for you excellent explanation. That's good news. I shall put it all back together (as soon as I receive my spares order) and check and see how it works, I assume if it worked before, it will work again. Regards, Dan
One thing with a bent generator in a lamp though. If you notice it smelling of unburnt fuel and/or is working poorly then it may be that the angle of the jet is making the mixture partly miss the mixing tube. If this is the case then you will have to straighten the tube and then re fit it so the inner hood sits right. Easy enough to bend them back. Just heat to dull red and quench before bending. Dull red mind because any hotter and you can melt the welds on the Preston loop. ::Neil::
