After waiting ages for a lamp shade to fit my early table lamps two have come along all at once One from the bay of evil & one from a member here ( many thanks Sean 8) ) , the white one is a generic shade i think & the painted one on the CQ is an early original , I seem to remember reading somewhere that although not intended for this lamp they were fitted to CQ's 8) Jeff told me these painted shades are pretty rare in the UK so i'm lucky to have this one 8) Here are the three table lamps , the CQ , the 169 & the AGM which i going to modify to get working , I'll let the pic's speak for themselves Best regards Stu
That is a beauty Stu!! You say they are rare in the UK, well that one is also rare here in the USA . I've found a few original Coleman shades over the last few years, but none as nice as that one. Nice lamps as well . Dan
That gorgeous 318 shade was made between 1909 and 1924 and was available on a CQ, usually changing the model name of the lamp to a CQ318. Your other shade is a Coleman 329 Monax, available through the early to mid 1930s, and it did come in white. The detail on yours looks very fine. I'll bet it's the genuine article. Quite appropriate for the 169 although it originally came with a parchment shade. A very nice trio! Dan
Sorry to disagree with Dan D. The white shade is not a Coleman 329 Monax, but rather a true British Famos 120 shade. The Famos shades are a bit larger and a more rich white glass. They are often found used on Super Aladdin lamps in addition to the Famos. In the picture the Famos 120 is on the left, a Coleman 329 Monax on the right. The Famos is a fine mantle lamp and this shade is seen in most of the advertisements. Both are nice shades to have. DV
Glad to say all are now up & running just need to sort out a globe for the 169 when funds allow Best regards Stu
