I am working on a Tilley IR54 and try to get it in good looking and working condition. On the reflector there is a notch at the top and there once must have been a sign fitted there. Anyone that knows what kind of sign an what it looks like? And about the notch, whats the meaning of it? Bo
Hi Bo The knotch below the where the badge was is where the reflector is screwed on to the handle frame I'll see if i can take a pic of one of my bowls if it has a badge on Stu
I'll take a stab at this one. Assuming that it is the IR54 that you have (identified by the angle at which the top components are fixed to the tank) and that the notch you mention is the one on the edge of the reflector. If this is the case then it is simply that Tilley used standard reflectors from a Tilley R1 and turned it upside down. The notch is where the control cock sits when fitted to the R1. The patch where a badge has been fitted looks like it would be the one found on early R1's like on mine below. I would hazard a guess and say that perhaps that reflector has been replaced at some point with one from an older Tilley and as the badge would have been upside down it was removed. I hope that all makes reasonable sense, best regards Matt.
Well, that might be an explanation. But why not just turn the badge in right position? Anyway, now I know what it looks like. Would not mind having one to fit to the reflector. Now my hope is that someone has a similar heater so I can clear this thing out.
A reply to my own post. I tried to edit it but was too late. First, of course it is a IF, not an IR. I was so focused on the name Infra Red. But we might be a bit closer to the solution. Taking a look at the , I can see a glipse of a notch on the 6:th image. So maybe Tilley used the same parts for several models. What surprises me is that two of the holes in the reflector seem to have been made by hand, not pressed out. So probably some kind of recycling old parts. Bo
