Hi I was having difficulty getting fuel or even air thro the pickup pipe on my new lamp, now seeing how the tank base has a hole in as well I thought I would drop the base out, some photos of what was inside. I reckon its the dirtiest lamp inside I have ever come across god knows how its ended up like this. The fuel has a little filter on the end of the pipe that's something I have not seen before either needless to say that was totally plugged. I scrapped most of the goo out then into a pickle tank is good deal better now. Anyone ever had one dirtier than this I once had a tilley and it had a biro pen in it for some reason!!! cheers pete
I recently bought a Coleman that had a generator pricker rod inside the tank. Took me ages to shake the thing out through the hole. Still it will come in handy. So what is your lamp
Hi james yes was a mess inside as to the lamp once its something like I will post it up but you know what it will most likely be james cheers pete
I'm guessing but my money's on a Blanchard Table Lamp 900 or 1000 (or something like that, anyway)...
Nice to see inside too. I guess that divider is to ensure that however much you fill the tank with fuel, a reasonable airspace remains? Clever. Ian
Hi ian yes that plate is a good idea the air release on the tank is always above the fuel level no matter how much you put in it like you say clever!! pete
Thanks for this great “inside information”. I never knew these lamps have a filter and divider. Recently I found a tank full of green slimy goo. For a second I thought it was possessed by aliens ;-) It took a lot of solvents and a lot of time to get it clean again. Supposedly the lamp had been filled with colored lamp oil and left for twenty years.
Pete, Not as bad as yours but here's what came out of Coleman 275A, the fuel was very contaminated by the rust. Al
Still very dirty Al I think the steel base on lamps is a bad move by the manufacturers but I suppose its down to money savings. pete
Yep, mine was exactly the same - I took an almost identical photograph when I flushed the tank out. The rust must be up in the Schrader valve too because the fuel path is completely blocked. No wonder the Yanks call them the 'Coleman Turd' - obviously not just because of the paint...
Well dave was right of course smart arse Here is the results of the last few evenings working on the lamp fuel coming thro no problem now maybe a bit too much tho Lots to see to on it yet but I know now I can get it there Here is pics of what I got and how far its come is a wacking great lamp its 31 inches high it dwarfs a tilley TL10 Its a Blanchard 1000 150cp date on burner is august 1924 so coming on to 90 years now and lets hope it survives a good deal longer cheers pete
Thanks jeff yes really pleased to have this one wish they had put a positive shut off on it tho bit fiddly with just the air release valve to turn it off and of course you got to pump it up again. cheers pete
Well the fuel pickup is sorted and I needed a smaller jet but that all done is a great runner hope to polish it today and maybe bring to Newark next week cheers pete
Thanks for the comments glad you all like it fond of this one myself. Now jean I know they size don't matter and you like smaller lamps But to Blanchard size must have been important cos this I have here is a whopper here it is polished at the side of a TL10 tilley with a 169 vapouriser not a short one so the size can be related. cheers pete
Great work, Pete - I see you've had the polishing cloth out as well! It looks a bit out of proportion to my eye - the top's too big for the tank. I reckon with those large side arms, it would have been very easy to knock over - particularly with the shade attached. Be careful!
Hi dave yes the elbow has had a work out today hate polishing still its ok now and I wont ever do it again now Yes it looks top heavy but with some fuel in its very bottom heavy don't think it will go over easy tho dave ( famous last words!!) pete
Very nice Pete, looks much better than the first pictures. Certainly does dwarf the TL10, but I really like it. Looking forward to seeing it at Newark now. What day are you arriving?
Thanks matt yes well chuffed with it now hope to get there Friday dinner just me and dog maybe a few lamps and some stoves to go to a new home at the right price tho pete
Love the slight lean of the burner to the left ! Evidence of long life Good job on the polishing too Pete didn't think you liked polishing Very stylish indeed Cheers
yes is really shiny now be ok in a few years tho when it looks more grubby I like em to look their age but sometimes you have to clean them up as this one after repairs like think it does go slighty left ray as the fuel supply is on the right so when you tighten the nut up its probably bent a bit over the years best left tho bend it back something might bust pete
