CCS/CPL Annual UK Gathering - Newark

    7 - 9 June 2013

You are welcome to join us for the annual gathering at
    Smeatons
    Lakes, Newark, Nottinghamshire.

Collectors of stoves, pressure lamps & blowlamps
    are all welcome.

Please bring along some of your collection for
    display!

Originally a weekend event, many people now arrive
early. The field is booked from the Wednesday at our special
rate. Please come along even if it's for the Saturday night.

No need to book but if possible drop me an
    email
to let me know you're coming so I have a rough idea of numbers.

Cost is £6.50 per night per tent, caravan or campervan. Extra
tents & gazebo's housing displays are free.

    newarklamp.jpg

We look forward to seeing you
    there!

More info: DO NOT BOOK IN at
reception. Please just pop in to reception & tell them
you are attending the Classic Camp Stove's rally or the
'lamp & stove rally' & they will likely point you in the
right direction. I will collect the pitch fees during
    the event.
A key-card for the main gate barrier is
available for a £5 deposit. If you are arriving after
6pm please park up & walk around to the rally field & borrow
someone's card to gain access. If the warden is still
about & sees you she may let you in herself but please don't
disturb her otherwise. Alternatively, from Thursday give me a
ring on the mobile & I will let you in. Email me for
tel. number. There is a height restriction barrier which is closed around 8pm, preventing high vans or caravans entering or leaving the site. If it is closed you will need to park up until the following morning. It may be possible to come to some arrangement with the warden so if this is an issue give the site a ring. Normal vehicles are not affected.
The normal rate for the site is £15-17
per night for 2 people with a car. Our discount rally
rate of £6.50 per night per tent, caravan or campervan does
not include use of the main toilet & shower block. We
do have access to the basic mens & womens 'Anglers Toilet'
on the site which is just toilet & sink. If you wish
to use the showers in the main block by reception there is a
fee to pay (£1 I think). The shower
block uses a numerical key entry system. In the past
some people have paid their fee & passed the number around.
This has upset the site manager & as a result you may find
they open the door for you rather than giving you the code.
If we are trusted again this year please respect the system
& pay the fee otherwise it may be difficult to secure the
venue or goodwill in future years.
We are also asked to keep dogs on leads &
not allow them to foul the rally field - obviously accidents
do happen in which case you are respectfully asked to clean
up after your dog. The site provide a dog walk area.
There is fishing available on site but it
needs to be booked in advance.
There are no hookups on the rally field

I'll be there Ross, I was thinking of arriving on Tuesday, but will it be full price or will we get it at £6.50? Really looking forward to it though and having a bit more time to spend with my lamps. At home I only light one occasionally but in the caravan I get to light one or two every day. :D :D :D

EDIT: and stoves of course ;)

It's not unusual for a few folk to turn up that early. They always give us the rally rate. Just don't book in or pay as a regular camper - tell them you're with the lamp-lighters' as they call us & I'll collect the fees over the weekend.

Look forward to seeing you there!

I intend to be there too, as long as I won't get shot for bringing some wick lamps along too....

Looking forward to my first one.

Having just bought a larger tent as my wife wasn't so keen on squeezing into a two man contraption there is no turning back - I MUST go!

I've just added another one of those newfangled pressure lamps to my collection too :-s next thing you know they'll be using LEDs...

The weather has been really good here all day today. 4 more days for me, can't wait to get some lamps and stoves fired up, some sausages in the fry pan and plenty of booze flowing.

Quick question for anyone attending Newark, I have a few of these glass telephone box signs for sale. I think they are reproductions (not sure) for the old red boxes. They are 61 x 14.5 cm. Quite nice really, the lettering is black and the white is simulated frosting. They would look great mounted with a light behind them as they would have been in the boxes. £12 each or will do a deal for more.

    1370028651-Sign.jpg

Also got a lot of boxes of "strike anywhere" matches, none of the modern safety match rubbish, these are the proper ones you can light off the stubble on your chin.

Looking forward to it now, see you all there. :D/ :D/ :D/ :D

P.S. Still got a black sheep pint glass for you David.

For some reason I've spent the last two evenings half cut... call it training!

Looking forward to it, and hoping you will go easy on me as it's my first Newark. I also hope I can be forgiven for bringing along at least eight wick lamps.. To be honest my "display" would look pretty empty without them!!

PS. If I bring a small blow torch along is there any chance someone could help me out with a cup washer for the pump in order to help me fettle it? I picked it up for £2 a few weeks back but don't have a cup washer to fit. To be honest it's in an awful state so may be a challenge to fire up..

No probs mate, it was my first time last year and I can say with 100% certainty that I was made very welcome. And I'm sure that you will be too. Sorry I can't help with the pump washer but I would think someone can. I see no problems with you bringing a few wick lamps either, I've just bought another aladdin 23 with a honey shade, but it won't be coming as I've got plenty of others. :D :D :D

I think your getting confused Nigel, I've already bought an aladdin with a red shade off you. That's what made me buy the next 5. [-X I'm struggling to find space to put lamps as it is, I've got table lamps with no table space, wall lamps with no wall space and hanging lamps with... You guessed it, no hanging space. ](*,) ](*,)

I've dug up a Tilley X246 that I think I can part with if anyone wants one. ;) Reasonable condition brown hood and paint on the tank, but more of a user I reckon.

I'll try and get a picture of the blow lamp uploaded later... It's quite a small one which is what made me pick it up in the first place despite its condition.

I might be interested in the red shade and carrier if you would consider parting with them separately.. I don't really have anywhere for another complete Aladdin but I do have a super Aladdin with no shade.

    Here it is...

    1370246172-DSC00778c.jpg

As you can see it's in a very sorry state, but I'm sure I can revive it! If it helps I tried a cup washer for a Bialladin lamp and that is slightly too loose - so won't pump up.

I'll probably have it cleaned up a bit by Newark...

Hi Gneiss, does that mean the washer needs to be bigger than a Bialaddin washer? I don't have any spare blow lamps any more as I sold three at the car boot yesterday for £5. Cheap I know but I wanted rid of them and it all goes toward the weeks camping fees. :D :D

Guessing here, but is that blow lamp of yours an RM? The plastic knob is similar to the ones I've seen on stoves and other blow lamps.

Yes just a touch bigger I think...

I've no idea what make it is, I just liked it because it is smaller than the ones I usually see when I'm hunting for lamps.
