I think that it is OK to make up a lamp, and call it what you want, as long as you declare that it is a modern construction. However, it is IMO a bit naughty [-X [-X to claim that it is "Trench Art"; that gives the impression that it was made back in WW1 times, or shortly after [-X [-X . So my only critism is the description. Interesting concept though. I hope he made sure that the detonator and primer were not in there when he brazed it   , and that when he ships it, it has a "Certified Free From Explosives" form with it   , because that is what you need, even for empty shell cases. I've got a 1960's navy 4.5" shell case here if anybody wants to do the bigger version   . Steve.

    Hi Steve

Is that a 4.5 inch shell casing from a pair of guns fitted to a pre "Exocet" armed Leander class Royal Navy frigate 8)

I have a bit of a soft spot for these venrable class of ships as F40 HMS Sirus was twinned with my old cadet SQDN & we visited the old girl back in the 70's , my Dad came along too & was filled full of gin in the PO's mess , a great day was had by all & he still has his Mod ID pass used on the trip :D

    Best regards Stu :D

Hi Stu :) :) , No never came from HMS Sirius, a bit earlier I think, from HMS Eskimo. The Leander class (Leander, Andromeda, Sirius etc) had semi-automatic loading 4.5" gun turrets. The Tribal class (Eskimo, Ashanti, Zulu etc) still had the wholly manual loaded turrets. I recall, that a good, well trained 4.5" manual turret crew, could out-fire the semi-automatic turrets (till someone lost a finger in the breech!) Happy days eh! - Steve.

They were a good class of ship Henry, served us well for many years and some are still in service with other foreign navies even now. Don't know what happened to Juno though. You did a good job mate - Steve.

HMS Juno - launched in 1965, commissioned in 1967 (must have been your first job, Henry) and scrapped in 1994...

So then, This just went, same seller again.

"the pressure gauge works fine but i suspect it has been replaced at sometime"

This to me means definitely been changed. So begs the question what else has been done? Any thoughts? I can't help but feel a bit suspicious of any thing vase lamp related that comes from that area

Somewhat interesting that it sold for less than his "trench art" lamp, which admittedly came with a few more parts. So the real thing is worth less than his homemade job :-s

Yes I was watching this with interest, I never made the connection to this thread and the previous sale though.

I do wonder if all the bidders actually read the description properly...
