Is this poor lamp a Bialaddin 300X ?

Hi, I picked this rather sorry looking lamp up today... So sorry looking that my wife wouldn't even let it in the house!

Can you please confirm whether this is a 300X or if not help identify it?

 

Yes it very much looks like a 300X, and in a sad state! But they are almost indestructable and can be saved. Good luck - Steve.

 

Model will be hiding under grunge on collar but looks like 300x to me.

Nowt wrong with that. Get one of Steve's hood caps and the rest'll come up fine.

Treat it to a seals kit from Ross; globes, vapourisers and mantles are easy. It'll be a cracking lantern when finished - she'll be begging you to bring it in the house...

 

Yes a 300X for sure. Tell SWMBO to treat it like she might a small dirty child. You know the drill. Hose it down in the yard and then stand it in the kitchen sink and scrub it clean. ::Neil::

Assuming there was a non X version what were the differences?

I don't usually buy lamps that are in quite such a state as this one but now having two 305s and a 315 it was the next logical step to my collection... I just kept my fingers crossed that I had identified it correctly.

I think it's going to be a fairly long road to bring it back to it's former state, but that's all part of the fun..

Is this lamp dated 1946 - 1951 or are there makers that allow it to me narrowed down a bit more?

 

No we can only date these by the years they changed models. Might be nice to know the day any one example was made and perhaps the name of the guy who packed it and what he had for breakfast that day but I'm afraid we have to settle for what there is. ::Neil::

 

I'm wondering why/when the large and small filler caps?

This tank has the larger filler cap... but what is the significance of that?

 

Well I know the name of the guy who finally packed my M1B collectors lantern; it was Peter Sunderland and I watched him do it.
