Hi I(my sister who lives in the UK) just won a tilley from lamp/stove-bay and would like to know details about this lamp. The lamp is 6850 miles away from me so I can only rely with the unboxing pictures my sister sent me. Info's such as dates, rarity(if ever) or better yet its commonness.
It's a very common lantern and the base plate will be date stamped and the outside of the box may also be date stamped.
Is this the woed model of x246b's or is it better than the later models? Does this lamp perform well? Thx
Basically, these are working as they should! Some parts are cheaper aluminium instead of brass. Still, they work! It seems the latest production of vapourisers is of very low quality. Things are simply no longer made to the high standards of bigone days, we'll have to live with that . My X246B works as good as any other lantern I have so I'm OK. Best regards, Wim
It's nice that you still have the original paperwork and the lamp looks to be in pretty good condition. I would just clean the paintwork a bit with some T-cut and protect it and the chrome with a good wax car polish... Replace the washers/seals as a matter of course and then it should run without any issues.
T-Cut is probably the best thing on the planet for restoring faded/oxidised/grubby paintwork... http://www.t-cut.co.uk/index.cfm?page=1 It's mainly used on cars but works a treat on lamps
