Hello Pete, I have the remains of a larger Tilley meths torch, it looks like a standard one, except that it's twice the size. On the bottom of this torch is stamped patent applied for. This Torch was for preheating the 500cp do-nut lamp vapourisers, LJJ.
Hi Pete , i have one also much deeper than the normal one ,it came with a SDR that i got will post a pic when i work out how cheers kenny..
Hi All Yes I did pick one up at the Newark meet the other year, recon its part number 310 for 500 CL lamps like 0L51, left one on photo below. Now can anybody tell me what one below is for or if they have seen one like it, as you will see one side missing, but this is a push fit onto a Tilley Vaporizer
I have seen one of those before. I might even still have it here. I have no idea what it was made for either. ::Neil::
Hi i have one the very same one side missing it came with a old stove that i bought some time back at a car boot kenny..
Hi Jeff and Neil It would appear it’s for a stove by what Kenny’s saying Hi Kenny So may I ask what make or model of stove this pre-heater is for then
Hello Steve, I reckon that these torches were made by Tilley, it makes sense that they would have made a more robust torch for use with floodlights etc.. It may even have been at the request of the railways, I do not have any proof though. Perhaps there is a patent for this robust meths torch. Jeff.
I think if these were made specifically for the floodlight projectors, we'd have seen many, many more by now. My guess would be that they were for the export market or had a very short production run - likely due to cost, knowing Tilley...
Hi All Thank you Christer for your help with photos of ebay item. The lamp in the add was more from the late 50’s as it had the smaller bottom rim and not from early 1940’s as add stated. Hi Jeff yes I also now think these could be Tilley but not sure these where more robust as two out of four we know of have a cup missing.
