I believe that this 821 "Baby" is a Pre WWII. However, I profess that I am no expert on the European lanterns. I believe it is 150CP. This lantern was hardly recognizable when I found it in a box at the flea market. It was all bent up, the ventilator totally crushed in. The generator/vaporizer is not a helicoil like most. It's logo has the E inside the G. The bottom of the fount is stamped 1130. The gage has a mica window. The pressure release screw has been removed and the hole brazed over on the fill cap. The Valve handle was missing when found and I fitted a replacement for looks. I have not run this lantern. The pricker needle is missing. The globe is a replacement I fit on it. Pictures tell it. I would like the Giant Euro Minds to figure this one out...pinpoint age and any other info. Thanks all!

The date 11 30 ( november 1930 )seems to be just about right, and that would explain to me were optimus got their early vent design from, looks exactly like my circa 1931-35 Optimus 200

And solved my mistery too. I bought a couple of years ago a Petromax 822 with the same hood and ventilator and at that time I guessed that it came from an Optimus. Now I will to restore it and complete the lamp with its original top. Thank you very much and congratulations for the restoration.

It's actually not so surprising. The first Optimus lanterns were direct copies of the Petromax lanterns of the time. I believe this was about 1930 or 31. The first Optimus lanterns were even numbered 821 and 826, but this only lasted a year before they changed the numbers to 200 and 300 respectively. The only difference I can see from this 821 is that the Optimus lanterns always had the Preston coil offset as we know them today.

    Good conversation fellows !
Now i'm even closer to set at date on my 827, with all facts i have gather so far, i would say it was manufactured between 1935 to 1939, it has the frist genertaion rapid heater, but nickel plated topvent and a fibre wheel, the 1936 catalogue shows plastic wheels and red tops on all rapids, so maybe it was manufactured in 1935 or so, hard to tell.

The Petromax 821 is truly a very good looking lamp. I would say the right size and proportions :)
