Hi all, Here’s another French parabolic radiator/heater, build on a stove tank. The brand name ETNA is totally unknown to me. The only connection I could find was a stove with that same brand name, so maybe the “stovie” guys from CCS know of this brand. I added the burner outer cap myself; don’t know if there should be one or if this heater had a protection wire guard. The reflector disc is adjustable in any angle from vertical to horizontal. Any info of this heater or brand would be welcome! The “Etna” stove ad comes from a 1926 paper, so I guess this radiator may be from around 1930. /Conny
Nice heater, Conny. If the reflector tilts backwards to the horizontal position, my guess would be that there should be a safety guard that also acts as pan support (i.e. with a flat area in the centre). That would make sense to me...
Yes David, that will make sense. That pan support saftey guard could be found on both the Lilor and Succes heaters, which also could be tilted backwards to a horizontal position; so why not on this heater. It would be nice finding paperworks to confirm this. /Conny
A truly fine looking heater, Conny. From the fluted column on up, an otherwise utilitarian conversion is taken to the level of a fine display piece. The French seem to have a knack of making the most simple things look elegant. Nice! Dan
Yes Dan, this is a nice looking and simple built radiator. I couldn’t say that of all the French pressure appliances made. Sometimes a bit tricky engineering, but always exiting to find out, and they do function well. /Conny
Hi, Michel sent me a link to a catalogue PDF (thanks Michel) from 1929. This company Paris Negoce is displaying a range of non-pressure stoves and among them you can see a radiator/heater very similar to my Etna. This heater has a different tank, yes; but the handle and a disc support are more or less identical. The interesting thing is the conical wire guard, that probably also serves as a pan support, as already David suggested. I believe my heater would have had a similar wire guard/pan support. /Conny
