Yesterday a big box was on the doorstep and since I wanted into the house I dragged it inside.
In the box was a Optimus heater which looked ok to me as well as complete.

What surprised me was the burner. It looks to have some addition which I can't see a use for. It is completely sealed cast brass so I guess factory made. Anyone an idea ?

    Thanks in advance,
    Wim

You say completelysealed off, but can that half rounded piece not be screwed in, or perhaps even hammered into place?
Otherwise it looks a bit like the burner they used with cleaning needle and on-off valve.
In that case the regulator spindle could have been positioned where that plug is (see below). If it turns out that it is a plug, that is.
Someone might have had problems in finding neeedles, or perhaps the gland was leaking, and came up with this quick fix.
You still can prick it as a normal domestic stove with a handheld pricker.

It also misses the large heating dome (unless you just not forgot it when taking the pictures), but atleast you still have the insulator with it. The part that hangs loose on the filler lid.

    Hello Christer,

Well that is my idea too. I will give it a good clean and see if the dome is removable. If so, does somebody have the parts to complete it ?

What is the right type number for this beast and what is the "insulator" ?
You are right about the dome: It always falls off and I put it aside.

The insulator is that ring you had around the tank lid on the first image.
It goes into, and over, the bowl shaped part of the burner all silent stove burner has.
That bowl is there to conduct much of the flames heat down to the vaporiser.
But when using a stove type burner like this with an all around covering heating dome, the heat will be too excessive, and thus this little insulator ring to take some of the heat away from the regular "heat conductor bowl" (I don't have any actual name on that "bowl", but I'm sure you get what I mean).
There will be a tiny air gap between the insulator and the bowl.

This is how the insulator ring goes. Best to show, because I've seen people position it the other way:

As you can see this burner is of the unregulated type. No needle, and no valve.
All my Optimus heaters have this type, so unfortunately I can't tell exactly which needle, gland and spindle you need.
I expect them to be larger than the regular ones used on stoves with that type of burner.

    Thanks Christer,

I find these burners clever things. They do what they should do but also unhandy since the top parts always fall off.

VERY nice heater. I like it!

I have an Optimus 155 marine stove and the previous owner had a fine wire over the top of the silent burner domes to keep them in place. There are a couple of small holes in the burner shroud through which the wire is attached. Similar scheme might work for you.

After some jet cleaning it works.

Must have been a stupid sight: middle aged man in shorts with a flame thrower (at first) and then a 2500watt kerosene heater while sun is burning and temperature is well over 25 degrees centigrade.

But I have to get some spare parts too. Is there a complete spare parts kit available somewhere ? What jet size does these heaters need ? Same as the optimus stoves ? Assuming they are all the same size.

The "stop" on the burner looks to be one with the cast rest of it. Which points to an unfinshed burner. Which on the other hand is unlikely.
Since it works I will not try to get it off. If I succeed I don't have the parts to finish it. And when it is hammered in I have an even bigger problem.
