Just thought you may like to see this:- http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=261262112297&ssPageName=ADME:B:SS:GB:1123#ht_197wt_964 This seller appears to have stolen text from Terry Marsh's site and added it to his/her listing. Doesn't even seem to have the wit to edit the text they've stolen. He/she did a similar thing with a lantern from Steve and Gill Woods' collection the other day. I've asked him/her about it and just received illiterate, abusive replies to the effect that the lantern is still in the shed because "they haven't paid for it yet" Apparently I'm on drink or drugs (or both!). I'd be giving this unpleasant seller a miss if anyone's tempted to buy from them...
I noticed this also. You'd think that when people plagiarize, they would attempt to conceal what they have done. At minimum, remove people's names. Guess it shows how inept some are these days.
I believe this seller was discussed over on CCS a while ago as there was some other dodgy business going on with that name and under several other names all who seemed to come from the same area. Reading Ebays copyright infringement rules, an item listing cannot be reported for infringement reasons by anyone who does not own the original rights. However if anyone could get touch with the owner of the rights then they could report the item themselves and have the listing removed. If however the seller received enough emails from people suggesting they remove or edit the listing as they are breaking copyright laws they may not wish to take any risks. Alternatively we could just ignore the listing and seller all together. I'm jumping down off my high horse now.
Yes, it would need Terry to contact either them or eBay regarding a copyright infringement. I don't have his email address to alert him. People could email the seller(s), I suppose, but they're pretty ignorant to be honest and probably got a skin as thick as a bookie's wallet - it's likely they'll just receive abuse in response, as I did. Shame about idiots like this who spoil eBay for the rest of us... Edit - just looked at their feedback and noticed they seem to have done lots of deals with 'bargainhuntderek' and 'tilleyradiatorstove123'. Both of these sellers have been accused on here/CCS of dodgy dealing - shill bidding and such...
I've looked at the link and i can't see anything wrong with it apart from saying it's an Imber Research model...am i missing something?
I contacted the guy this morning and he replied stating that a change had been made. Problem solved in this case.
Yes, as they say the best form of defence is attack so probably not worth contacting them. It's the whole description we are looking at Paul, it's been copied direct from Terry Marsh's site, it's on this page HERE even down to who's collection the lamp is in. Stupid thing is the actual bialaddin version is underneath so quite why they went for the imber one I don't know. Perhaps someone should ask why they are selling a heater that is in someone else's collection? Also, are you not on drink, drugs or both David?
Kero fumes, Matt, just kero fumes... Yes, I see they've now changed the listing but still managed to incorporate part of Terry's text - but just the mistake about who made the bowlfire. It (and Will's Imber Research) was made by W&B. Imber Research was never a company - that was just a brand/tradename in the same way Bialaddin or Vapalux were. Imber Research was the alternative name to Bialaddin for the US export market - to avoid confusion with the U.S. Aladdin Company... This Imber Research bowlfire arrived here just last week from Florida. My other one (not quite so nice and with a stress-crack in the tank rim) arrived here from Oregon a few years back. The only difference between a Mark III Bialaddin bowlfire and an Imber Research bowlfire is the reflector badge is green and states 'Imber IR Research'. The pricker control is also green and states simply 'I.R.'
OK, to bring this up-to-date: This thread has been in quarantine for the last 8-9 days because it concerned an on-going eBay auction. That ended last night so the thread has been re-instated. I don't know what others think about the bidding pattern but to me it looks, er, unusual - 13 bids from just two bidders each raising the price by £1 or so each time. I've not seen anything like that before. I wonder if we'll see it re-listed shortly? Just wondrin'...
Look at the bidding pattern for the two bidders and in particular note: Bid activity (%) with this seller: 37% and 19% respectively, dodgy to say the least. But for cast iron proof that all is not right with bidder 2***a look at the number of bid retractions. A classic scam to find out what a reserve has been set to among other things such as shill bidding... I don't know about anyone else here but in all my time on eBay I have never once had to retract a bid let alone 21 times in six months!!! I thought the eBay software was meant to automatically detect dishonest eBayers... Incidentally at the time of writing tilleyradiatorstove123 and mystery bidder 2***a on this item both have feedback of 29, coincidence??
