Before anyone says anything about wicky crap my hands are up already , but this powerful incandescent mantle lamp is a bit special :D

I got this super chrome pre war famos lamp from ebay for a song & was just going to just use the superb shade on a pressure table lamp , when another shade came my way 8) so i decided to try & get it going instead & only because of its supposed light output [-o< :D

I know a lot of wick lamps are a bit poo as far as light output is concerned when compared to our beloved pressure lamps 8) , but the 120 incandescent lamp is a bit of a beast & nearly twice the size of an standard Aladdin type  8)

Unfortunately the Famos spares are few & far between & the mantles are like rocking horse poo  or off the scale money wise making £50.00 plus each  ](*,) , my flame spreader was missing too

I trawled the web & found a great site here.....

    http://www.emmens.me.uk/index.html

This page is the index although some pic's are missing but still full of useful stuff 8)

I made a trial flamespreader but this one caused a sooty flame due to the folded join in the mesh

So a second one was made using a simple homemade die to form the stainless mesh spreader like an original perforated type :D  & a wick trimmer was fab'd up too :D

Because a Famos mantle could not be sourced the Famos site suggests a mod using a 53mm aerosol tin top converted to take an Aladdin mantle instead......

So i made one up as well :D

The final pic's for the post :D

Close up view of the simple aerosol can adapter :D

A nice blue flame from the new spreader :D

The replacement Aladdin mantle glowing nicely 8)

The lamp up & running well :D

    1377640730-DSCF4420_opt.jpg

A very respectable show :D

Although it's still not got a pressure lamps light output it does have a very good try even with only an Aladdin 80cp battered mantle fitted :D  & i'm glad i gave it a go even if it is wicky crap :D/ :D

    Stu :D

Nice to see it working... Great work on the flame spreader too, I know from Aladdins just how sensitive these lamps are to the slightest error in the shape of the flame spreader.

..and the wick, and the mantle, and the phase of the moon and whether or not you went to church last Sunday... :content: :content:

All kidding aside, this is a great accomplishment

Anyone who didn't is of course flirting with eternal damnation or at the very least a sooty chimney...

Good stuff Stu, I'm about to make a mantle holder as you have done,I have just got hold of a unused Famos even the wick is clean, not sure of model yet looks more like Aladdin same burner as yours though,I'll be using a spare Aladdin chimney so we will see,By the way are you still making stove tools(NRV) is something I would pay you money for.
    Kind regards Alex
