Did Tilley change the shade of red they used for "red" X246B Tilley lamps over the years as my "red" X246B looks decidedly orange to my eye? Also is there a comprehensive list of X246B colours they did use?
Not sure about shades of colours, but a list of colours would look something like this. Gold Red Bronze Brass Chrome Other colours show up but as far as I'm aware none of those are standard or big batch items anyway.
My "early" B is a different shade of red to my later B if that helps The earlier one is a darker red - may be just due to the paint darkening with age!
Of course, it could have been re-sprayed at sometime Most lampies would do it if they have a tatty lamp that they want to make presentable; at least I do if it is not a rare specimen. Steve.
I'm pretty sure it's the original colour, it's just a more orange red than others I've seen... There is one in the gallery that looks to be the same shade as mine. Of course digital cameras and monitors don't always give a true representation so I wondered if others had noticed a change in shade at some point... It does... Mine is dated August 85 so at 28 it's only a youngster.
This one... To my eye yours appears to be redder again... Is that the original paint? Maybe there was a world shortage of red pigment in '85
I've just taken a photo of another lamp, but noticed that it shows quite well just how orange my "red" Tilley is...
You need to get a little cocktail umbrella for the top of your drink. That'll solve the problem of getting rain in there.
