I have this interesting Akron lamp and I'd appreciate some help identifying the model number and perhaps the years it was made. Eventually when fettled, it will end up in the Lamp Reference Gallery and I'd like to get it right. The fount looks exactly like Neil's 1919 Model 92 30638[/ATTACH] At the end of the day, this could be a model 92, and someone replaced the first generation match light burner with the newer "S" generator type. There are tool marks on the fuel control valve. Or perhaps Akron was trying to use up Model 92 founts and for a transition period, added the new burner on the old founts. Hard to tell. That tank only seems to appear on the 1919-1920 lamps but they were a torch lighter converted to match lighting. This could therefore be an early 101G from around 1922 or as you suggest a conversion from an earlier type to the 1922 pattern match light burner. Nice lamp either way. ::Neil::
Thanks for this info Neil. Might you have more paper with Akron lamps from between 1921 and 1925. I'm trying to figure out what the tanks looked like during that time period. I've looked at magazine ads from between early 1921 and late 1925 and there is a common tank during that entire period that looks like the pictures below. If this tank was indeed different than the Model 92, that may help with identifying my lamp model. If the model 92 tank was only listed in 1919 & 1920 and then the tanks changed slightly, I would be more inclined to think my lamp is a model 92 and the burner is a later replacement.
