Does anyone know how to take the pump tube off? Is there a special tool for it? I was thinking of using pliers but was afraid it would crush the thin metal.
The actual pump tube is soldered into the tank, so it cannot be removed, but the pump rod is held into the tube with a round nut and it will unscrew from the top end of the pump tube, but it may be a little stiff. Photos will help us to help you, Jeff.
Removing the pump tube is the last act of desperation when you can't get the check valve out. Not a normal fettle at all and not recomended either although it is possible to remove them by melting the solder. It is very easy to damage the threads or distort the shape though which is why you try to avoid doing this. So I have to ask Why because there is probably a better way to solve whatever problem you have. ::Neil::
Hey guys, I'm back. Well I bought a really rough Hipolito and I discovered a leak in the pump tube. There's bubbling coming out of the back part of the tube itself. I plan on getting a propane torch to get it out.

You wouldn't have a video or link to a video that shows how it's soldered do you? I've never soldered before and I'm afraid I'll mess it up. Getting the pump tube off seems easy enough.
Hi Sam The tool fits any stove or lamp because it uses the pump cap off of your kit Try googling it or youtube for soldering techniques , best thing is to find some old lamp or stove & practice over & over until your confident Stu
Is your Petromax nickel plated? In that case make sure you use a good solder with a bit of silver in it. They give a much shinier look than a pure tin solder. A grey solder looks crap on nickel plated lamps. I use Castolin 157, which is as easy to melt as any other soft solder.
It's actually for my old, crusty Hipolito. Most of the nickel is gone so it has a dirty brass look to it now.
