Yes, but strictly speaking, possibly more suitable in the Open Forum since we're not discussing any pressure lamp in particular.

Also yes to loose paraffin. Last time I looked, the garage on the corner half-way up the main street in Barney (near the Register Office, opposite Maxwells) had a paraffin pump in the side street. I don't think it was particularly cheap, though.

    Staindrop - dangerously close!

Hi there and welcome to the forum :)

Yes it's possible to buy Paraffin 'loose'. I have an old fashioned hardware store localish to me that dispenses it by the gallon from a pump that looks pre-war!!

Hi - What do you normally pay for a gallon or litre of kerosene? Last week I paid $4.13 a gallon for the stuff. That's more than a gallon of gasoline!
I remember when my wife and I were first married and I paid 12 US cents for a gallon of kero. My father-in-law had an old Evans kerosene stove he use to burn in his garage when we worked on one of the cars. I know prices have changed in 44 years, but higher than gasoline!! Never!

That shop I mentioned George, asks £6.50 per Gallon, about $10.51.

My other option is to buy it pre-packed in 4 litre bottles and the cheapest locally that I know of is about £7 a bottle.

You still have it good over the pond :) !!

When did it shrink? Probably about the same time Mars bars were downsized along with every other choccy bar, even Yorkies have bigger gaps between chunks now!

Round down the capacity - round up the price. (No-one will notice . . .)

Try buying Coleman over here - some years ago, it was over £7 for 750ml can (or was it a 500ml can?). That was about the same as whisky at the time.

The price dropped somewhat when they introduced one litre bottles for £5.

I've no idea of the current price and I won't be buying it any time soon (read, never) - bah!

Phone around your local heating oil suppliers and ask if they sell 28 sec heating oil on pump. If not, they will know who does. This is the same as paraffin/kerosene. My local supplier charges 75p per litre including VAT. But don't buy 35 sec oil which is diesel.

Or, find a neighbour/friend who has oil fired central heating and will let you syphon some out of their tank.

I use 28 sec heating oil in all my paraffin/kerosene stoves and lamps and have not had any problems.

Hello George, these 2 links show the prices currently being asked for Coleman fuel on Ebay UK., and the prices are in British pounds not dollars, Jeff.

Yep, those 1 litre bottles were £5.00 each when I first saw them around 5-6 years ago.

But who in their right mind would pay almost £16 for one? - that's just taking the p**s, that is... ](*,)

Yes, but from Jeff's second link there's another link to HERE,

Do those prices for Coleman lanterns and two burner cookers look quite attractive?

I'm not tempted as I'm simply not into that volatile fuel, Paraffin is enough, and I have enough lamps etc.

I don't know why anyone in the UK buys Coleman Fuel when you can buy you can buy 5 litres of Panel Wipe from most auto paint stores for £12.95. eg... Link

Panel Wipe was discussed on CCS recently - Link

Quite right, Terry - I've never bought Coleman fuel yet and I never intend to.

Same with that Aspen stuff - not quite such a rip-off as Coleman but an inflated price nonetheless. I imagine the suppliers might put that down to it not being bought and sold in large quantities i.e. the economies of scale don't apply.

Panel wipe is good enough for me and my lamps, although I tend to go for 'users' that are kero-fuelled, so I rarely need to buy any...

Those are all modern Coleman products and they will work, but the old products are of much better quality, Jeff.
