hi does any one no if a fl6 fuel gauge can be stripped for repair for the needle etc mine has rubbish in it and no wording and won't move. or where I can get a replacement .. thanks Ben
Hi Ben, You can strip it but it is not easy, I've done it once. First you will have to remove the »compass« from the brass housing. The compass is made from two glass plates with a metal ring between them as a spacer, the dial and the needle and everything is kept together with a outer brass ring with crimped edges. To dismantle it you will need a pointed tool or a strong needle to unfold the brass rim, I opened it from the back because it is likely to damage the glass edge in doing this, so you won't see it after the repair. Once opened you can replace the dial with a self made one, I printed it on sticky paper, cut it into shape and used a hole punch for the center hole. The tricky part is reassembling, use a magnet to adjust the needle so that the axle rests in the two small holes in the glass plates, put some hot glue in the slot between the outer brass ring and the glass plate because it is unlikely to bent the rim back in shape. Put the compass back in the brass housing, it can be turned to adjust the dial, and you're done.
matt your amazing thanks!!! on that note does any one have artwork for all the lamps decals or no if they can be baught
