Here are a few images of a Coleman (Canada) December 1935 Hot Ray Heater. The original ceramic Radiant, a Coleman name, did not survive Australia Post's gentle handling. This is one I made of 316 1 inch 16 Ga tube which fits without having to bore out the inside of the tube! The number of holes around the circumference is different mine has 20 the original 18. It is easier (quicker) to get 20 than 18 divisions on a dividing head. The most time spent was de-burring the inside of the holes. Stainless steel is known for creating a nasty burr on the exit when drilling.
Pity we can't see the part you made - sounds quite a job! Maybe the image you posted twice showed a view of it. Well done getting it running again, though...
Model 128 fount is incorrect on the 480 heater, fount part number 120-165 with corresponding handle is needed.
The fonts on both of my hot ray heaters are the same size, small base not the large ones as in Canada . Maybe the export ones to Australia were different ? Both are dated around 1935 .One has the ceramic mantle still.
There is one I posted, 1935 model 480 Hot Ray at Jindera Museum N.S.W. which has the same font as 118 lamps.
Interesting variation of the 480 Hot Ray with smaller sized fount, doesn't appear in the 1934 or 1936 Coleman Canada domestic catalogs and I haven't seen a small fount style 480 in local collections. If several small fount examples have shown up then Coleman Canada must have shipped them as such. Are the bases of these small fount style also stamped 480 Hot Ray as is on the larger fount model ?
Hi all. No stamping on font to identify it as a 480 or Hot-Ray. Paint appears original. Attached is an image of the mantle/radiant
