    Hi,
I'm fettling an Aladdin A1, has the green painted brass fount. I need a new vaporize and needle as their badly corroded. I managed to get the push rod out but the bit it screws into inside the end of the vaporizer is jammed in and is damaged also. I believe Radius 119 interchange parts so if anyone can advise me where I can get these Aladdin A1 or Radius parts it would be appreciated. Thanks, Liam........

Given it is an Australian made lantern you should be able to pick up another one, to cannibalise, fairly cheaply. That would be my solution.

Unless the actual thread for the jet is damaged or there is a leak, I wouldn't expect the vapouriser to need replacing. It sounds like it's jammed solid with carbon (not corrosion). Give it a few doses of heat and quench as well as some mechanical cleaning action. It should come clean. Otherwise there should be plenty of spares around.

Thanks for the comments. I have managed to get the needle out although it will need replacing. The vaporizer should be ok, I had to re-tap the nipple thread and the thread for the nut at the top of the lantern broke off so that will need replacing. Thanks again.....

I was recently looking at some of my Aladdin`s and found one had a steel vaporiser badly scaled and rusty others had missing or broken pricker`s , some had pricker rod with male thread and at least one has a female thread at top of rod.
I have put them aside for now, waiting to find suitable parts too.

You could try T. W. Sands in Melbourne VIC or Associated Kerosene and Oil Lamps in Braidwood NSW for the parts.

I've sanded back the fount on my Aladdin ready for painting(had the paint shop match the original olive green. It polished up really nice and I almost got sucked into leaving the brass tank when I discovered these stress cracks, about 4 of them. Some running up from the base and some from the rib. What are my options here? Just V the cracks and silver solder? and do you need to drill an end hole to stop the cracks progressing further? Thanks....... 1383614214-PB050001.jpg 1383614219-PB050003.jpg 1383614225-PB050008.jpg

    Does it leak under pressure?

With that many stress cracks, I would be thinking about either getting a 'new' tank or using POR 15 - which is expensive, but very effective if used properly. There are a number of posts here about using it. I used it for a Tilley R1 and did a bunch of other repair work using the same tin of POR 15.

Soldering might work, but you might also get a new leaks from weakened solder joints, so be careful. If the crack looks like it will 'run' drill the end(s) with a fine drill before soldering.

This is unfortunately not uncommon on the painted tank Aladdins. The best bet would be to find a good tank and replace it or use POR15 (or an equivalent). I wouldn't try soldering as there ar probably more cracks waiting to appear. As for soldering, I would soft (lead) solder, not silver solder. All other joints and fittings on the tank are soft soldered.

I had the same problem with my example of that lantern, plus it had a pin hole in the side of the tank.

So I scrapped the tank and used the rest of the lantern to make a cobbled lantern, which is shown via the link below.

As you live in Australia, it should be easy for you to find a good tank, perhaps one of the other Australian members will have a spare one, Jeff.
