This is a new addition to the pile this week. I think it will be AGM model 961 although it does not appear in any AGM catalogue. It is however identical to this Stanleys lamp. http://0flo.com/index.php?threads/436 and Stanleys always used the original manufacturers model numbers. I suspect this was made as a special for Stanleys but this one is not marked as Stanleys and there is no sign of it ever having a Stanleys label soldered to the tank base. The only thing wrong with it was a broken pricker wire. Not an easy fettle but I managed to insert a new wire and it now runs very well. ::Neil::
These lamps normally come with a broken pricker. I don't think I have yet seen one come in with a working pricker and they are a tricky fettle. It requires a careful drill down into the carier with a 1mm drill and then crimp in a wire. the nose on the carrier is ony about 2mm so the drill has to be accurate. The length measurement is critical because there is no adjustment and it has to be right to within about half a mil. I have done a few and it is always a worry that I will destroy the carrier and have to cut and file a tiny part to replace it. Then of course you need a 1mm wire with a ground down tip to 0.006". You can just chop off the business end of a Tilley wire but good spare Tilley wires are not common so mostly I have to regrind one in the Dremel. Great when it works though. This lamp is bright and from inspection of the insides I don't think it has seen much use in the past so it works almost as new. ::Neil::
Hi Neil WOW neil thats a cracker 8) & i know what you mean about the pricker mechanism I have just fettled Jeffs old & holed 66 , this was missing the complete pricker carrier so i made a new one from scratch , this took hours because i had never seen one in the flesh before , but i now have a working 66 also fitted with a pyrex bell globe Hope you approve Stu
Great job Stu! I have a similar Standard-Gillett Light Co.lamp and I can second the opinion of a tricky pricker mechanism. A working lamp is a nice light provider though. /Conny
