Yippee, we've just had the first power cut since I started collecting lamps. Had to grab a candle first so I could find my meths bottle, luckily the lamp on the dining room table still had fuel in the tank so I lit that one. Also the coleman 295 whilst waiting for the Tilley to pre heat. Then decided to light a Kl80, which decided to leak so I had to change the seals, got it relit and in the hanger and guess what? The power came back on. The lamps are still running though. :D/

Yes it's over the southern part of Sweden now with speeds of hurricane strength in the gusts if the papers are true.

The entire west coast was predicted to get a real storm, but they have downgraded it a bit up here at the Skagerrak where I live.
It will probably not be so bad, but some trees might fall so I'm preparing for a power cut.
The accumulator tanks are heated to nearly 100 degrees Celsius so I will have the house nice and warm and warm tap water for a couple of days even if the electricity should be gone for long (which never happens anyway).
But more important: I'm hoping to be "forced" to use some lamps and perhaps a stove for breakfast tomorrow.

St. Jude has changed gender by the way... It's called Simone here.

I am waiting same storm here in Finland. I guess it is not more than strong wind when it is here. Sadly i don't think that my house lost electricity so i have no real reason to light some lanterns :(

Well despite all the warnings, the power cut we had seemed rather out of the blue as at that point there was no rain or wind. In fact we haven't seen any wind up here at all, no more than normal after curry night anyway.  Plenty of water on the roads this morning. Bring on the next power outage, it's nice when you have to light a lamp rather than want to. :D :D

We had a shed-load of a storm   . About 90mph winds at 4am for four hours so no sleep after that   . Did me a big favour though, got all the cooking apples off the tree for me   . Fortunately I had picked off all the Sloes/Bullace and converted that into the required medicine for next year's Meets. So don't panic folks, all is safely gathered in :D/ :D/ :D/ . Steve.

Well, despite AOL warning me for about a week to 'brace' myself against the forthcoming hurricane, in actuality all that happened here was some of the leaves on my tree wafted about maybe a centimetre or two and I think a couple might have even fallen off. No rain overnight either.

    A total non-event... ](*,)

Had my Aladdins and several wick lamps all fueled up ready to go along with a couple of pressure lamps...

A bit of rain, a bit of a breeze and to much else. Pretty much a non event here too.

I was all ready to be the only one in the street with decent lighting!

All OK and no damage. No power though. Estimate is another 2-3 days. Village high street closed with a tree, power lines and two power poles down across road. I think we are a low priority for repair!

At daughter's today having shower and using up all the spare space in her freezer

Had three Vapalux lamps, a Bialaddin heater and an Optimus 00 stove running last night. Good job we had 1000l of heating kero delivered last week .

Beautiful blue skies and sunshine today.

    Regards,

We have power     (for a while). Came back on an hour ago. Looks like the engineers have rigged some sort of temporary power bridge while they work on the poles. Lots of trucks and floodlights up there working. I expect it will go off again for a while when reconnect it properly.

The power pole on the right is being held up by the telephone box!

Last night - scrabble followed by a few games of crib lit by a chrome Bialaddin 300X and a Vapalux 320:

I think we may have lost three leaves off one of our trees...

My sister managed to lose her entire fence, so worse where she was.
