On and off when I have snatched some time I have been working on reproduction Bialaddin cleaning wires complete with spring and user removable steel jets for standard Vapouriser tubes.

Would like to gauge interest in doing a production run on these after the guards I have promised :)

Will post some additional info and pics at some point.

Sounds interesting. How would the jets be fitted? Cut off the top of an existing vapouriser and tap a thread?

    Yep that's basically it James.

I found an M10 tap does a good job.

The replaceable jet is made from an M10 bolt or stud. I'm not sure if a high temp' thread sealant will be required or whether thread to thread will suffice, have not tested my prototype yet?

The hard part is the 0.2mm hole and I broke 8 out of 10 drill bits getting a drilling method down!!

A slot is cut so as to be able to remove the jet. The internal cleaning wire centralizing spring needs a few coils cut from the top.

With this mod I think a vapouriser will become 100% serviceable as both screw ends can be removed for cleaning!

I am almost at a point with selling all my surplus hobby stuff where I can buy a metal lathe. This will make the process easier and neater.

I will ask here though, does the jet have to be made of steel or would brass be OK? I'm wondering if there will be a differential with metal expansion and a problem? Would make making them easier if brass was OK?

Will add pics of me prototype soon.

Hi Steve, I think some people had problems with the brass jets because of the extra heat (with the vap tube and jet being inside the hot bulb unlike the P'max system or Coleman & the like). As far as I know Stu (loco7lamp) has some hands-on experience with this.

    Best regards,

    Wim

    Wim,

The problems were with the brass aftermarket vap' tubes if I remember right?

These would be brass inserts for a standard steel vap' tube.
