But maybe there's a reason for this,,,it makes it even more unusual and unlike any model catalogued,,,so is even rarer,,,,,nice dent in the tank though...

Yes, call me Mr Cynical if you like, but when someone like that (who really ought to know better), does something like that, my suspicions are immediately aroused. I wouldn't be at all surprised if there's a rabbit off somewhere - stripped threads or the like.

Where's he getting all these lamps and lanterns from, to polish to ***k. :rage:

:) OK, then - from where did he get the IL37 in the first place? The one he's not going to sell to anybody at that asking price, especially considering the missing parts. Some folk never learn... ](*,)

Just offered me £70.00 for a SDR, says he refurbishes them and makes them look nice.

Damn cheek. That SDR is worth at least what a "Normal" one is and that is rather more than £70. Besides a guy like this has no appreciation of what we see as desireability in a lamp. He is not a lamp guy at all just after money and profit so when he says refurbish and nice he means destroy the finish and make big bucks. He gets shill bidders to "set" a high auction value and then hopes to eventually profit from that artificially high value because he assumes we are all dumb and will accept that the lamps are worth more because of the historic auction values. My advice would be to not sell him anything which might help him in his quest to rip us all off. ::Neil::

Not any more, he doesn't - for the moment at least eBay seem to have clipped his wings by limiting him to BIN-type auctions where shill-bidding isn't a factor.

But it's the lamps that concern me more - there are still plenty of other 'polisher/profiteers' whose auctions are, at least, honest but the damage to the lamps is exactly the same...

Hear hear, spoken like a true gent.
I have instructed my wife that if anything should happen to me while the lamp is in my possession it will be left to Neil or if not David.

Sharpen your knives, prime your pistols and remember the pellet with the poison's in the vessel with the pestle and the challis from the palace has the brew that is true. If all that fails prepare yourself for a kick in the chuddies.

He's probably reading this (properly).

Looks like he's resurfaced as statelands 123 as Ian pointed out and needs to be kept an eye on. What is the point of eBay banning someone and then simply allowing them to re-register under another name? - it beggars belief. Still, I suppose 'phoenix traders' have been on eBay as long as there's been eBay... ](*,)

...and they're Phoenix Park traders!

I've just had a very strange conversation with statelands123 regarding a stove he also has for sale. Apparently it comes with a "spedder". Now I've no idea what a 'spedder' is so I asked him:-

    Q. - Hi, what's a "spedder"? Many thanks in advance...

    A. - it goes on top of the stove and spreads the flame out to make it silent

Me - Ah, the extra inner and outer burner caps. They would replace the flame plate on a stove like a Primus 96 with a lipstick burner and quieten it, but not on a Primus 210 which has a dedicated roarer burner. Hope that helps...

Him - no are you buying it

Me - I don't know - it's an auction and at the end whoever bids most wins. I don't know if that'll be me or not. Cheers...

Him - did you want a buy it now price as need gone

:-s :? I've just about lost the plot - is this how they talk in Lincolnshire? ](*,)

Ask him for a link to where you can buy Bowlfire burners for "next to nothing". I'll have half a dozen!

They're also ten-a-penny of course - which explains why someone here is having to make them individually by hand...

Ah right. No so much 'The Riddler', more a fiddler - with a polishing mop.

    And there's no violin involved.
Catch 22 = no win situation, which is likely to happen if you bid as he seems to buy his own items.

Seems crazy, he pays to list, then pays the auction fees just to see if someone will eventually make an offer he'll accept?

    Some odd folk about.

Wow, glad I popped in here. Was considering bidding on the bowlfire with that missing 'oh so common' mixing dome as he said they are available on eeeeebay cheep as chips ;)

No seriously, I was gonna bid as I have had an idea for turning a standard Bialaddin mixing dome into a bowlfire dome but won't now it has been pointed out who it belongs to, cheers chaps

    EDIT:

By the way, that's me on there with the re-furbed vaps' and BF instructions!!

Well, it looks like was banned from standard auction listings for just two weeks. He is listing again today. Ebay must be desperate for their commission from him.
