Strong winds and driving rain here in the North-East - but hardly "the worst weather in the last 30 years" as reported by AOL (who, as usual, were just reporting someone else ) Still, there's time...
Your weather reaches us (Danmark) full scale in about 3 hours, but I hope its just going to get a bit more windy as usual. Normally when hurricanes hit us, we have no power-cuts, while we have no hanging wires in the air. Everything is digged down in the ground way back in the 80-s. The largest threat normally here is a garden-trampolin learning to fly. I hope all you united kingdommers will get through well wihtout damage. Wish you luck. Claus C
Update: Still very windy here but the rain stopped a while ago, the sky cleared and it's bright and sunny now...
Nothing serious, 40 to 50mph gusts just now, hail flurries, ground white. Peaked about 5am at 105mph, had to nip out and secure a door by reversing an oversized Land Rover against it People tend to forget its winter, especially the sensationalising reporters! Alec
We now have hail-storm and lightning plus a lot of rain. Wind is storm. All bridges are closed and no trucks are driving. Still no problems or damage. The last hurrican took all the bad trees hehe. Time to test my hurricane-lamps. Claus C
Well it got quite windy here in Cambridgeshire briefly and we lost power for about half an hour, it came back just as we were discussing going home..
Up here within the 60th degree of latitude the weather is vile! Storm force winds with snow and hail, Jeff.
The wind is supposed to be peaking here in Copenahgen at the moment. Very strong storm force winds but no damage (yet). Unfortunately the power is fine.
Our power went off yesterday morning about 8.30am and came back on about 2pm. We lit one lamp then decided it was as good a time as any to go into son's home in Aberdeen so that John could put up their new kitchen lights. Took our lunch with us as I'd made tattie and leek soup the night before! Home again at 4pm, the house was freezing and didn't really heat much in the evening because of that biting wind. Calm and cold this morning with a smattering of snow and I can see there are quite a few bits of branches down in the garden. God's own County has missed the worst as per usual. Sorry for people who have fared badly though.
A large-ish island called Sjælland, where 1/4 of the danes lives is hard hit by the storm. Lots of coast-cities has water in the houses and the museum with the Viking-ships had water 1,5 meter up of the windows so the ships almost took off again - and we dont want that. Im curious to hear from our nederlands and northgerman friends, they should have had a hard hit too from the storm/hurricane with loads of water. I hope you are all well. Claus C
I know Poland was as I saw it on the Polish news... In fact the Polish news had far better coverage of the storm than our own news due to a 95 year old man unexpectedly dying.
