I have just aquired 3 pressure lamps from a car boot in states of disrepair. I would like to fix them up, but I don't know the makes or numbers. Here are some pikkies of them. can anyone help me out? Two of them are the same lamp, but from different angles.
Hi, welcome to the forum. 1 and 3 are Tilley. Go to: 'Home' 'The Lamp Reference Gallery' 'Great Britain' 'The Tilley Lamp Company' 'Storm Lanterns' You can them look through and find them. No 2 looks like a Bialladin 300X (It should give the make and model on the collar below the glass). Follow sequence above but click on 'Bialaddin' instead of 'Tilley'. In your photo the hood is not fitted correctly. You will see the are two cut-outs. These slip down onto the bolts that hold the handle. Then screw down the nuts securing the handle and they will lock the hood in place. Looking through the gallery to ID a lamp is half the fun. All three run on paraffin. Terry
PL53 tilley with what looks like the short vaporiser Bialaddin 300X and a Tilley X246B good finds and rewarding fettling to look forward to well done on the faster typing TJ....
Come on chaps, that's a vapalux 300x not a bialaddin. It's got the wider tank with the groove around the base seam.
Welcome aboard! The PL-53 is a WW2., example and it should have the 169 vapouriser which is longer than the 606 which is currently fitted to it. The Vapalux lantern is a great find. The Tilley X-246-B lantern should be dated on the base plate. Do let us know how you get on with restoring them, Jeff.
Cheers people. Don't know about being "spoon-fed". To me these are things of beauty, and I dont want to wreck anything I know nothing about by yanking and twisting at things I am unfamiliar with. Forn instance, I wouldn't pull the cylinder head off my car for the first time without a Haynes manual or something similar. So can anyone "spoon-feed" me in the direction of any exploded diagrams of these beauties?
Hi Man (from Manchester) At the frontpage is a commercial for Basecamp and this splendid company has excellent pictures of what I believe you need. I try to "spoon"-attach this link http://www.base-camp.co.uk/instruction.html best newyearsregards and welcome from Danmark Claus C
Quite simply, this:- I am told and I forget; I see, and I remember; I do, and I understand... The best way to learn about your lanterns (and this forum) is to explore yourself, perhaps with a little guidance. Anyway, none of your lanterns is rare, valuable or difficult to work on and fettle. Virtually all parts simply unscrew, unclip or pull off and are easily available should you damage them, which is unlikely. The only part you might think you need to dismantle, but don't beyond changing the gland seals, is the control cock/pricker control. I'd say, give it a go and if/when you get stuck, ask us then... 8)
Hi here are some posts with information to read: Link1 [url=http://0flo.com/index.php?threads/553 [url=http://0flo.com/index.php?threads/552 When attempting to undo parts on any lamp wrap a piece with of leather to prevent pliers from marking them penetrating oils and a little heat may help with frozen threads. There are parts lists and instructions in our reference section here for a lot of lamps.
I have tried to put links to posts in here. I find they don't seem to work could Moderator replace with :- http://0flo.com/index.php?threads/3488 http://0flo.com/index.php?threads/553 http://0flo.com/index.php?threads/552
Yes, I have put those three links in your former post. But as David pointed out, they are of no help for the guy from Manchester since he can't access them.
