So here's the setup, its a bit light at the moment to get many going but i'll post some pictures later when they are. We need the extra heat out in the conservatory so they are a welcome addition to the festivities. Hope your all having a wonderful day and enjoy the pictures.
Well the christmas spirit has just about worn off, although I got plenty more as presents so all is good, bottle of Talisker single malt and a bottle of Grants. Everyone seemed happy and no one complained about any smells, not even the ones from the turkey. Here are the night shots, plus one just for you Nigel.
Wow Matthew - be carefull not to mislead the 3 wise men away from the star. Its stunning beautifull lamps My favorites is all your hanging lamps A real nice christmas-room btw. Claus C
Thanks everyone, again I hope you all had a great day. The lamps have been drained now and the house is back to usual. The Aladdin vase lamp was working very well Paul, I just have to keep an eye on it because it does have a tendency to flare which results in a black mantle, black chimney and plumes of smoke. Not good when I have it lit in the house. But then I think this can happen with any Aladdin mantle lamp. Glad you liked the pictures, and I wish you all a Happy new year for next week.
Thought the Aida was going to make its debut here for a minute ah well, maybe next year aye Nice pics Matt
Thanks Ray, the Aida was going to come out but I remembered that I still need to sort the bolts out that hold the main cast Iron lump up to the lamp. I decided it best to leave it where it was rather than risk the glass or someones head. But yes maybe next year, or perhaps before, Newark will be upon us soon. 100watt light bulb stuck in it would have drowned out the rest anyway.
Hello Matt, that is a fine display! Aladdin mantle lamps all suffer from that problem. The way to cure it is to turn the wick down a bit once the lamp has been running for an hour or so. Jeff.
I recently acquired my first Aladdin vase lamp, not the one I would dearly have liked but beggars can't be choosers! Don't have a mantle for it as I recently sold what I had - there's a lesson to be learned there I think. Anyway, once I find another mantle (and hopefully a nice glass shade too) I will post a picture of it. I can't see me ever lighting up all my lamps at once unless we decide to downsize and sell everything off then I might consider doing it just for fun.
I've got some bolts around here somewhere that I bought for the job. Can't remember what they were now. I know I've got the taps as well so it's just a case of getting it done now. Maybe in the summer I'll get a little more enthusiastic about working in the shed. I promise it will make an appearance again one day. Jean, I'm sure you'll find a mantle to put on it no problem. It's one of the three lamps I keep fuel in for either emergency use or just when I feel like lighting one up. Oh yes and you know what I like if you decide to thin out the collection.
Hi Jean, you can still get the mantles on the web, e.g. at Hytta.de or at "E-Pay". If its an old burner which requires "KoneKap" style mantles, there's an adapter available to fit the newer "LoxOn" mantles. Regards, Martin
Thanks Martin but being an Aberdonian (known for being mean) I would rather not pay very much for one.
