Hi all. My first post on CPL, coming over from CCS. This is a lantern I picked up at an antique mall in Boise a while ago. It was missing its globe and the q99 generator. The repro mica globe was gifted to me by snwcmpr, thank you Ken!, and made by Fred Kuntz, he really does a great job on these. The R55 generator is from old Coleman parts,I made a spirit cup for it. The nickle is in very good condition. The only marking is on the air intake tube? which is the patent date 1919. I would think 1920-24? I have yet to fire it up.. ATB, Rick
Nice job. I learned a few months ago, from mahobud, that Coleman applied for his lantern patent in 1917 but did not receive the patent until 1919. So, that is his first US patent date. Ken And it was gifted to you in return for gifting the pump so I could fire up my 1924 Quicklite, so the thanks goes to you Rick.
Hello Rick and welcome aboard! That's a fine example and if I recall correctly, Coleman started dating their products in 1924, Jeff.
Nice Quick lite, these are one of my favorite lanterns. Very simple, quite often need nothing more than to have the dust blown off of them and a new set of mantles tied on and they lite right up. Going by the unmarked tank, and the way the bail attaches to the frame, yours looks to be pre 1924. Welcome aboard and post some pics if you decide to lite it up. Rick
What does it say on top of the vent? 1923 was first year for logo stamped on fount,1924 the date was added to logo 1921first year for quiklite on frame rest.in1922 Coleman lamp co was added to top of vent DanL
There was a change of model number for this lantern. In the Coleman parts catalogue #29, which dates from 1923 or 1924, they state "Under our new system of numbering the Quick-Lite lantern has been changed from QL327 to LQ327, the L indicating the fount, the Q the burner and the number, the style of mica chimney used" So I guess that makes this lantern a QL327. ::Neil::
Hi all and thanks for the nice welcome and comments and help regarding dating. I knew it was sometime in the early 20's, looking through Terrance Marsh' website. now to go see about lighting it up. Dan. there is nothing on the vent or anywhere else other than the air intake tube.
