Well tonight I lit my first lamp since ashover way back in October.
Since then my life has been taken over with packing stuff estate agents and solicitors and now finally I unpacked a lamp so fuel it up and light up outside my door. As some of you know I been planning this for quite a while well we finally got the place and its fantastic black as pitch at the back perfect to light lamps up, I always wanted a celler or a double garage and here I am spoilt to have both.
A room dedicated to my lamps and a workshop to fix the lamps up heaven eh :content:

couple of pictures 246 hanging at the side of the door well good

    Thanks Jeff
I loved this place the minute I clapped my eyes on it never knew it was here till I saw it on the internet and only 2 miles from my old place !!
Plenty of space for cars and the van has garden on 3 sides like its grade 2 listed so changing it too much is out or too costly but with the cellers and garage its plenty big enough for us

    Hi Jean
thanks we think its great too
we have the bit from the back to the first pair of big chimmeys see this old pic from the 50s I think
    1394843340-20031222_630101502.jpg

we bought the back end of the house formerly the servants entrance working areas, the tower was formerly a cold house for food and so on, now our kitchen. The ceiling is double glazed so you can see right up the tower with all the internal woodwork.
Its plenty big enough for us god knows what the whole building would cost maybe a lottery win would cover it tho

    cheers pete

Hello Pete, thanks for the explanation and I now recall that an original one was shown in either the Victorian or the Edwardian farm series.

It would be a fine place to sit and read a book by pressure lamp light!

That's a fine old photo, so was that a stately home?

The middle part looks like a religous building to me or perhaps a school, Jeff.

    Hi !
Peter's gothic pile is humungous ,the only way to keep in touch with Candace will be with a short wave radio ( CB )or what ever its called.
I was round there today moving in yet more lamp boxes from my little Harrogate depot !

Looking good Pete, glad your settling in. You can always put my name and address on any of those lamp boxes and I'd be happy to find space for them. ;)

It looks very atmospheric in the night-time shot with the full moon behind - I was thinking of the (Willis &) Bates Motel... ;)

It looks like one of those 'living wagons' the old road menders hitched up behind the steam roller - see many Fred Dibnah programmes for the general idea...

Thanks Ray we knew soon as we clapped eyes on it it was for us

Now Matt I have only unpacked one so far have to see what fits in the new lamp room :content:

I quite thought I may call it Blanchard Towers :content:

It is like the living wagons at steam fairs and the like but when they sell them they are classed as shepherds huts for the more fanciful ideal I expect

    Now mick

Candace has a good pair of lungs she can shout pretty loud but it does get tiresome trailing all over looking for tools I need when I am doing something.
Made a start clearing the rubbish shelves and dross for the lamp celler prior to a coat of paint looks better already then I can empty the boxes

So it appears that the search lamps have been unpacked plus a donut of some sort, :-k sorry I should know what it is. I also spy a small collection of wells unbreakable lamps, can't remember seeing those before. ;) Guessing here, but it looks like 3 no.15 kettle lamps, 3 no.4 engineers lamps, 1 house lamp, 1 no.5 and a no.20 moulders lamp. What do I win? :D

Matt how can you not know what that donut is you been looking at tilleys too much
But then reckon most folk on here would not know what it is either !!
There Searchlites and the donut never really was packed just wrapped in blankets and driven the 15 miles to micks house with all the glass for safe keeping.
You don't realise what you have till you got to move it and I don't class my collection as big by any means compared to some peoples.
Think your right with the wells lamps I have these few quite like the simplicity of them fuel and light easy peasy

    cheers pete

Damn it, I got the easiest ones wrong.

Pete, when you say about the simplicity of the wells, you do realise that there is a whole load more lamps out there with the same simple operations. They are called wick lamps. Have a look on Ebay there are many to choose from. ;)   you fill a few of those shelves with them.

Matt don't think I don't get tempted to try them or one sometimes maybe I will one day
I can see what people see in them and why they collect them but up to now I have never tried one due to space
Things may change here now I got the room

I think you should be careful Pete, the more space you have the more you will be tempted to fill it, just look at Stu's shed! Best to be selective I think.

I dont agree here Jean. The bigger a Collection the bigger chance there is for it to be saved for the time to come by other people.

When people start Collections of coins, stamps or even butterflys, then they normally start giving Space for all types of the collected stuff and then fill the holes when they get the item for it.
This is also possible to do with pressure-lamps, they just fill a bit more, but there is not so many different types, as ex. coins, stamps and butterflys (yes I know the Butterfly-lamp).
I have a dream of a pressurelamp-collection in large scale, where people would come from all over the World to see and enjoy the collected lamps while their small children are gathered in small Groups lead by lamp-pedagogues learning them to light their first lamps.
My vision looks a bit like this:

    http://jysk.dk/om-jysk/jysks-kaempelager-i-uldum

So just go bananas in this beautifull house you live in Pete, there is a solution to all problems. :content: And of course notify your wife regularly and get her accept.

Speaking about long-suffering wives, did anyone catch the second in the Collectaholics series tonight? I mean, stuffed animals for goodness sake! I thought the chap with the beer can collection was mad enough but isn't it interesting to see that the collectors' wives seem to be quite accepting of their husbands' idiosyncracies.
