Can anyone tell me whether this lamp... would originally have been this colour http://0flo.com/index.php?posts/2415
The military ones would not have the red top! No sense in painting the fount olive drab and have a red top shouting at the enemy (I think they come with black enameled tops only). Best regards, Wim
Gosh John I thought that was an old woman's saying! Nowadays, of course, anything goes except in the realm of pressure lamps.
Some people think I am an old woman. However, I don't think a red hood looks right with a NATO olive fount, bit like a military civvy cross breed.
Yes it is, unless the glass and the control knob have been replaced. It's had a bit of a cleanup and the washers etc replaced. As soon as I find a decent match for the paint it will be resprayed...
I like the look of what's in the glass . . . ! Is that a nice honey mead? The lamp looks good like that, different.
As soon as I find a decent match for the paint it will be resprayed... Would that be the green or the silver,if it is the green, NATO olive would probably be your best bet. Sorry I can't find the spec, not too sure if there is one, but try your local pro car paint supplier.
I think I'm pretty much decided on the silver now, I have the Vapalux version with a black lid so I should be able to get a reasonable match...
Sorry, there never was a Bialaddin M320!! Bialaddin 320s were made for the Civilian Market. At this time the Military were using the Bialaddin 305, the very same lamp became the Vapalux M1 when W&B started to move away from Aladdin Industries in 1966. About 1980 W&B stopped making the Vapalux M1 and the Military then used the Vapalux M320. This was the first M320. It had a silver tank till about 1990 when drab olive was first used on a 320 lamp. The Bialaddin 320 came with silver, cream and chrome tanks and a mixture of black, red and green hoods, no green tanks. Cheers....soon be Newark!!
Definitely red and green. Back in the 70's our scout group decided to change the colour of our neckies from just plain dark green, and a consultation was held as to what it should be changed to. The winning choice by a country mile, was to apply a red border round the edge, at which point my mother made the remark about red and green. Incidentally, this is where I first learned to use a Bialaddin 315.
Nah - surely it is (two local sayings):- Blue and green should never be seen except upon a fairy queen, or Blue and green should never be seen without a colour in between... I think red and green look OK together - they're Christmas colours. What about those 1951 Coleman 200 Christmas tree lanterns - ...
Nor me. But if red and green navigation lights are seen together - get out the way - It's coming straight at you!!
I think it would look pretty good in cream and I even have that colour spray already, but I'll hopefully look for a match for the silver this weekend. I have a resprayed bialaddin 315 in silver and it's always annoyed me that it's not a great match so I might respray that one at the same time if I can find a better shade.
Here it is completed... It's not a perfect match but it does look the part. Very pleased with the result and my wife didn't moan too much when I baked it!
Looks absolutely fine to me. I don't think there's much point in going for a perfect match for something that's either decades old or was produced for decades - they'll all be slightly different shades by now depending on the various factors in operation throughout their life. Yours will be a slightly different shade in a couple of years anyway...
