    Hi

i have 5 Tilleys. All of the tanks have the thread inside - female. The pumps obviously - male.

Sniffing around EBay i often see pumps offered with female thread.

What is this? Do Tilley have different threaded tanks und pumps.
I thought all Tilley lamps and heaters had interchangeable pumps. :-k

    Thanks
    Dave

No, as you've spotted, there are male and female versions of the pumps and filler bosses, obviously not interchangeable...

Tilley started to use the male pump in 1946 when they introduced the first X-246 lantern, Jeff.

    Thanks Jeff

sorry about replying so late. Didn´t notice you´d answered. Did Tilley stop making the female pumps after introducing the male pumps in 46? Or did they continue to build both types.

    Thanks
    Dave

Hello Dave, they continued using both types for a while, but I'm not certain when they stopped using the female pump, Jeff.

    Thanks Jeff,

we newbies dont want to be a pain by asking so many questions but it´s all a question of understanding our new passion.
This forum is fantastic and i´ve found loads of answers.
If i see a Tilley or spare part i´d like to date it approx. so i know if it´s something that will fit my Tilleys.

I have read up on tanks,
    -ie porkpie early version.
-Guardsman tank, not date stamped, pre 1954. etc -Differences between 246, 246a, 246b etc
    and much more.

We accumulate knowledge by asking the experts.
Don´t want to do things by half.

Well while i´m at it.

I understand that the hood colour´s for the 246a changed in 1962 from brown to black.
Does that mean that all hoods pre 1962 are brown.

    Sorry i´m off again

    Dave

No both brown and black were in use. Brown on the gold painted lanterns and black on the speculum plated De Lux lanterns. Exports were mostly plated with black hoods so they are the normal find overseas. In 1962 production of the brown hood ceased. ::Neil::

I know some folk get irritated by being asked the same questions over and over. I know one guy who used to get into a rage when asked the same question maybe four times in a week. I have never subscribed to that view. If you don't know then you gotta ask. OK so you can maybe search the posts and maybe find answers but that can be tedious and I for one don't mind giving the same answers no matter how many times I am asked. So ask away and we will help. ::Neil::

Neil , a very commendable attitude
I have searched at times and not found what I wanted , asked the question and received a link to the information .

if you get the search words wrong , you don't find it.
    cheers

Hello Dave, in my opinion, asking and answering questions is one of the main purposes of this forum and we all learn from it, Jeff.
