    Hi Folks,

Looking for recommendations for a suitable mantle for a 500CP Optimus?

I think its a 550 (question is for a friend).

You can use any 500 CP mantle. There are various brands available. As you are in the UK you could order at the basecamp.

Not quite true, some are sock shaped, others two-hole.
Don't know whats what and would be ordering a dozen or so, probably off ebay. I would like a recommendation to start off with rather than pot-luck.

I've never fettled one of these Optimus beasties before, should be interesting, I may even make him an offer for it

You will need a single tie 500 cp mantle that gives a ball shape (not the tubular Coleman shape). There are lots to choose from including almost all the Chinese brands.

Petromax, Anchor, Butterfly spring to mind, they balloon out and help keep the vapouriser hot. 500cp Coleman mantles also work well enough but they are a flat bag and don't get so close to the vapouriser. Personally, I'd go for a Petromax type.

Thanks folks, i'll try one of those and report back with a picture (hopefully!)

I saw a long-sock coleman type advertised but it looked far too big/long.
