Usually too much fuel and/or too little air, so mixture is too rich.
Maybe the jet orifice is enlarged, air tubes obstructed, too little pressure, vaporizer clogged, or a combination of those.
When it burns like this you will get soot on the mantle quickly, and maybe also the hood gets too hot.
Hopefully you can find the fault and fix it.

If you have another lamp that works, swap the vapouriser and see if that fixes it. If it does then you need a replacement.

    Hi

this is a Lamp that i bought. I have never had it apart until today.

The air tubes were so loose that the burner was threatening to fall out of the hood.

The washer and spring in the NRV were non existent.

I fixed the Burner, put a washer and spring into the NRV, put a new mantle on and cleaned the vapouriser.

It has improved but i still have a small flame.

Could any of the above mentioned have caused my problem?

    Dave

Hello Dave, it appears that the jet in the vapouriser is enlarged, Jeff.

While you are at it I would order a set of washers too and replace them all unless you already have...

They won't solve this particular issue but they will prevent the lamp from letting you down in the future.
