Loosen the straight head screw that holds the hood/lens body to the tank and adjust until you are happy with it. It be just be that it is not lined up correctly.

Simon, I am glad that you have got your lamp and that you are happy with it.
I think you understand now what we meant when we said that you probably needed to adjust and service the lamp on delivery.

If you think that 500cp is to bright you can easily rebuild it to be 350cp by changing the jet and the needle.

    Hi Michael
    Thanks for the post
I may well give that a go .... Let's see how we get on camping this weekend with the 500 ! Is the mantle still the same for both ?
Any tips on the best place to get the smaller jet from ?

We will have the tilley as well with us but I think I will leave the vapalux behind for this trip !

We were also away last week and really found the warmth from the lights amazing made the tent really cosy I don't think sitting round an LED would have been quite the same !

    Cheers for now
    Simon

Probably the best way to get spare parts and accessories for Petromax is from the owner of the brand, Pelam (www.pelam.de).
You need a new mantle for 350cp (300-400cp). It might be working with a 500cp mantle but not perfectly.
I see that you have got the bite that we all in this forum have got. The lamp fever.
You have realized the superiority of pressure lamps.
Personally I hate LEDs, in more or less everything.

    Hi
    Just pondering
A uk based supplier ....for Anchor
    http://www.hurricanelamps.co.uk/sea_anchor_lamp_parts.htm
    Should these parts fit ?
Or should I stick with petromax parts ? Not sure how close a copy they are
    Thanks
    Simon

    Hi Simon,
the jet & needle should fit mechanically, but I don't know about the quality they provide.
I got an anchor jet from a similar supplier and the needle went straight through it during pricking. So I got a 1,500HK jet now
A vaporizer from the same supplier just "blew up" like a balloon and got chapped because obviously made from unsuitable material.

I am not sure of Sea Anchor or Anchor but I would thing that the jet and the needle will fit.
There are parts that do not have the same specifications like the glass.
I would go for the original parts myself. In that case you know they are the correct ones.

Any spare parts I needed I have bought of this guy, Martin Scheerer an enthusiast more than a money making business man.

    http://www.starklichttechnik.de/

For anything petromax, I recommend the above.
