Smallest mantle lantern I've ever owned. Overall dimensions are 6-5/8 X 3 inches. Burns Butane/propane mix refillable from canister gas. Mantles come pre-hung on brass ferrules and just slip onto the burner tube. The shields have reflectors built in and raise to protect the globe or one at a time for directional light. This wasn't around for long, but works really well for its size. Neat little backpack lantern. Mike
A Profane lantern??? What an 'Orrible thought. It has no pump and uses actuall gas and not a liquid so therefore has no soul. Neat little beast though. I might even be tempted if I saw one. ::Neil::
Neil, I know. It was just too cute to pass on. I filled it and it ran for 7 hrs. Not suppose to be adjustable, but is easily throttled, and would likely burn twice that long at a lower setting. BTW, I only posted this after searching the archive for other profane models. Didn't want to be the one to break the ice. Designed for Powermax fuel, it can be filled with standard threaded gas cartridges as well. There is a newer model, the Coleman Luminos. Burns the same mantles. It also has an led light in the base plate and piezo start, which would be handy if it ran out of juice in darkness, and you had to find your fuel. Mike
Nah, that was probably me... My view is that some of these gassie lanterns are classic by now, the fuel gets to the mantle because of a pressure differential and they're indisputably lamps, so what's the problem? Having said that, I accept that this may not be a common or popular standpoint...
Had it been an ordinary propane lantern, I wouldn't have posted it. It was the unusually small form factor that prompted me. It's also a bit irksome that Coleman put these out there and there are next to zero parts available already. The dreaded "part discontinued" abounds. So in a way they are still making rare lanterns. Mike
Toonsgt, Thanks for the tip about butane canisters. I tried it on the one I recently acquired and it works! This little lantern has gone from a collectable curiosity to a user. I will be on the lookout for more of these gems. VATriker
Coleman luminos is 17cm total. Makes is a little taller I guess ;-) They work fine. I made a small reflector for it out of a bowl. Looking at your pictures it shows the design failure of someone who doesn't use the items he designs. With the light directed to one side the carry handle is 90degrees of. When I carry a lantern and the light should point in front of me, my hand faces the same direction (thumb in front) so the handle should go from front to back and not left /right. (I hope my writing makes sense)
coleman discontinued the xcursion and the luminos,i contacted them and they said there were no plans to have any more made.
Way dead decomposed thread but I love this lamp.. I can never get the cans to get deep enough into the Lindal valves. Refill adapter (everyone seen these and are cheap) for the Butane hairspray cans with the Lindal adapter or the standard Isobutane canisters. Finding the lamp is easy finding mantles are getting down to damn hard to find then the price go's up.. I bought a half dozen bags of 2 mantles, more than I'll use in my lifetime. Thing is the mantles are the size of a pea and thus don't move around while in transport probably get damaged with a good solid shock drop.
