You should use the great British product "Swarfega" from Derbyshire instead - much better than paraffin, and healthyer if that still Counts a bit  .

I think the environmentalists have been at the Swarfega like they've been at creosote and much else - doesn't clean half as good as I remember it used to. Comma do a fairly good one, but recently I bought a big tub of Morris's 'Momento' as I couldn't find the one I wanted and settled for a new'un, and by gingo it knocks everything else I have tried for six! A 3 litre tub for about £13. Not particularly fragrant, cream in colour, with very fine micro-grains. Brilliant stuff - gradually add water on the hands to make a creamy paste that becomes more soap like as more is added. Got it from 'The Farmers Market' (chain).

Used to use Swarfega with the addition of table salt - more abrasive, but wife hates the smell of the green slime.

I have a gallon size dispenser of 'orange' swarfega (under a tenner in COSTCO) - its orange in colour (no surprise here) and 'gritty' too - seems to work deceptively well in that i've thought it hadn't done the job a few times, then rinsed off to find it worked after all.

I recall the 'old' stuff was a green jelly (no grit' which smelled as though it had turps' or some kind of spirit in it...

The orange one with the grit is called Tufanega. I have used it at work.
