I recently bought an item off Mother Ebay on a whim. I have no idea what it was used for, what it used for fuel (although I suspect it uses alcohol). It is, as you can see form the images, made of brass. When you open it up and remove the core of it, it is a cotton type wick which has no smell at all. I believe the piece has never been used. After researching the manufacturer, I believe it might have been used in a chaffing dish or for some other similar purpose. You note that there is a missing part and only a threaded hole remains where something threaded into it. Does anyone in the CPL recognize the design that they see in this post? The piece is rather well made. Thank you, Captain Mike De Long in ole Hampton, Virginia USA. 1412957890-MH1.jpg 1412957902-MH2.jpg 1412957913-MH3.jpg 1412957922-MH4.jpg 1412957934-MH5.jpg

    Hi Mike ,

It looks like some sort of alcohol burner. The "X" thing looks like the pre heater pumps that was used for alcohol wick fed alcohol European burners.

I had one of these here for a while. Was presed on me by Ed Erb at the Madison Coleman convention with instructions to flog it to a stove colector over here. Sadly I got no takers so it went back to Sugar Creek Ohio. It is an alcohol burner most probably for heating at a table. All you are missing is a filler cap. It may run without a cap but with alcohol I don't suppose it would be safe to do so. Neat little things. ::Neil::

One of these turned up on 'Bargain Hunt' a couple of years back. I've still got the screenshots which I intend to post on CCS - eventually...

Thanks for your response, Neil. Yes, the thing is a charmer for whatever reason. I will most likely resort to a good, old fashioned cork of all things to close up the rascal, then I can fill it and start experimenting a bit. I have never run anything like it in the past. Captain Mike in ole Virginia.
