I picked up this 300X for £15.00 at Ardingly Antiques Fair a few weeks ago. In good condition with the remains of maroon paint on the tank base. I've disassembled it, washed in soapy water, new seals, mantle, NRV pip & spring. I like the patina so that's as far as I'm going. I am however, a little puzzled by the top cap. The only ones in the gallery with a brass cap are the ones with Shedman's brass repro caps. This one appears original - the patina matches the rest of the lamp and the brass bolts look original. Is the brass top cap unusual, have I just failed to notice them before, or is it from another lamp? Holding pressure well - one hour with no pumping: Terry
My "standard" enamel on steel toped lamp had brass screws in that position so I'm guessing the brass screws at least are original...
Looks like the heat deflector from a KL80 Tilley. Giveaway is the third screw. Bialaddin caps have two bolts and the Tilley has one. If that middle bolt serves no purpose then it's a Tilley cap. ::Neil::
Thanks Neil. The middle bolt is just a brass pin that doesn't do anything so I guess it probably is from a KL80. I wanted to check as I didn't want corrupt the Lamp Reference Gallery by posting it as original if it wasn't. Anyway, it looks OK and does the job . Best wsihes, Terry
