Anyone that can identify this one? I have one that I am working on to get in a descent way so it can be displyed. Photos will come soon. I have make a note it is a SEQ but I dont't know why. The man is getting old and gaga. This image is from ebay for 10 years ago, a really shining lamp. Mine is missing the hood of the burner. It is possible to convert it from a table to a wall lamp by mowing the bottom plate to the side of the tank. Bo
Hi Bo, All I can say is W O W , I´m more or less stunned by the look of that lamp. I have no idea of what it is, but it´s for sure one of the most interesting lamp I´ve seen. I hope to get a lot of images of the burner and other details. /Conny
That's the right link Matthew and that was a great piece of information. For years they were only known as SEQ railway lamps. I seem to remember the one you show and I am pretty sure that the top is not original to the lamp. Here is a picture of mine. It is waiting in the queue for a lot of work.
Different to even mine . So even yours Nils could be like the one at the top .missing the hood look at the vent tube looks like yours . Bob , Below is mine . Notice the hood and cage difference
A few of these have surfaced although I don't have one. There do seem to be some variations in the hood and maybe that says they were made over some period rather than a single batch. I am pretty sure they have nothing to do with the Akron Lamp Co. in the US. ::Neil::
Interesting to see the variations in the hood design. Another thing I seem to see is that the mica cylinder apears to be quite smaller in diameter than the wire mesh on Bob's and Peter's lamps. Mine has the mica flush with the inside of the mesh (or what's left of the mica). I am certain I saw pictures of the one Bo has shown many years ago and discussed it with Albert White. I believe he knew the lamp and said the top was from something else and was just put on to make it "look good".
Thank you all for the input. For sure we have the same lamp, though the difference in the design of the hood. The ebay version is probably customised with an extra hood to make it look even more fancy. On all the images the globe looks more like a net, not a mica, but that migt be an illusion. My lamp is traded from Albert and he probably told me about the SEQ many years ago. So now I have to keep on cleaning my lamp and try to find a proper hood to fit to it. Finding the original is probably impossible, though there was some versions, so a good looking replica will do. Just another custom model. But I have a small problem. The tank is filled wit some fragments. Don't know if it is rust or anything else, And it is almost possible to get it out through the filler hole. Don't know what to do about this. Bo
When I was talking to Albert many years ago, he told me about one that he had fettled. Aparently the feed tube inside the tank is made of steel and therefore rusts. The only way he could get at it and replace it was to unsolder the bottom of the tank. Maybe what you can hear are bits from this feed tube. The filler hole has a long tube attached to prevent over filling, but this makes it almost impossible to get anything out via the filler hole. Does anyone know who made the burners?
