Having been a visitor to the Wheels By Lamplight evening for the past two years I would like to attend this years event with a small display (subject to work arrangements which I should be able to confirm in the next couple of weeks). Once I know if I am able to attend I will contact the organisers to find out their rules, regulations and requirements. I would however, be most grateful in the meantime if any of our members who have displayed previously could give any tips regarding what I would need to bring with me other than the obvious lamps and fuel etc. Many thanks. Regards, Jeremy
Rules???. Turn up after noon on the Saturday with a bunch of working lamps. Make 'em run for a few hours chat to a few other lampies then go home. Seriously though there are no real rules. If you have booked in then you will be allocated a table and Brian will show you where you are displaying. If you are late booking in then talk to them now enquiries@ipswichtransportmuseum.co.uk and if they are short of space then Henrey and I will have room on our tables for maybe a dozen or so more lamps and you can squeeze in with us. ::Neil::
I was planning on going this year but on the 18th, I'll be in Berlin instead. (but still looking about for lamps!)
Hi Neil and David Thanks for your replies. I have not yet contacted the museum as I am experiencing great difficulty getting time off for work. I should know later in the week of the final outcome. Regards, Jeremy
Hi Neil Many thanks for your kind offer to squeeze me in but unfortunately I have just had it confirmed I will be unable to take the day off work. I guess I'll have to content myself with being an evening visitor again. Hope to see you folks there. Regards, Jeremy
Another fantastic event at Ipswich Transport Museum. It was good to meet with Neil (Macburner), Henry and Stu (loco7lamp) who put on an excellent working display. Thanks for the hard work and the friendly welcome. It was also good to meet Greg (OldGreyDog) who I have chatted with recently. Photos to follow soon. Regards, Jeremy
Hi Some photos as promised. Stu (loco7lamp) hiding behind his display. Neil and Henry's display. Regards, Jeremy
What a fantastic evening! My (our) first lamp gathering and we enjoyed every minute of it - the time passed all to quickly, but it always does when having fun... I was pleased to find and say hello to Jeremy (x246a) who was the only other guy wearing a beard and a Tilley hat! My better half enjoyed the evening as much as I did and while she does not get 'hands on' with pressure lamps, she has been musing about seeking out a couple of old 'wick' lamps (am I allowed to mention these - lol) she has stashed away somewhere... We will definitely be there next year, and at any other events we are able to get to...
Here are some of my pics from this year. Henry and I displayed these in the first three images:- AGM 3470; Gloria W; Handi #3 Kero-Pet; Optimus 1200; Phoebus 631; Phoebus 645; Primus 1081; Serrot 200 c.p. do-nut, petrol; Tilley AL15A; Unic Hollow wire #5 petrol; Tilley IL37; Nagel Chase 103; Coleman L arc; Bialaddin hand lamp; Thermidor 303; Evening Star 92077; Pitner 1001 Parlour; Unic 8; Focus twin mantle; Petromax-Racek 827A; Coleman 237B; Kelite KD4. ::Neil::
Force is right. Visitors muffled up in coats and us in tee shirts because of the heat. Rough guess we were shoving out around 50KW of heat. Our display is always by far the brightest and a major hot spot in a big unheated garage. We did well this time because there was only one failure. My Thermidor would not stay running. Fired up OK but died after ten minutes. I must have got the pricker/valve set wrong because it would not open enough to stay lit. ::Neil::
Beautiful display gents, looks like a lot of time was spend packing and unpacking. That is a true love for lamping.
Great to see the pictures as I couldn't make it this year unfortunately.... One of the things I love about this meeting is the mix of different types of lighting and indeed heating and stoves.
