Tilley in not able to sell/ship new lamps currently since their base supplier is no more supplier parts for Tilley. http://www.tilleylamp.co.uk/catalog/index.php Quotation from Tilley's web page: ****************************************** Stock shortage Sorry, we do not have complete lamps in stock at the moment. The company who pressed our bases for us is no longer trading. We are in the process of getting quotes for another company to make them for us. Please let us know if you would like us to email you when they are available. ****************************************** Does anyone has more details?
I wonder how much longer they will be taking to find a new supplier? Seems like they have been without a font maker for quite some time.
It's been like that for months and I'm not convinced how hard they are looking, Vapalux managed to find a good one. They probably make far more from selling spares than selling whole lamps anyway.
I think that it should be normal procedure to discuss with supplier that they are able to supply parts. If there is upcoming some difficulties to get parts, normally companies are prepared to get parts from some other supplier.
It would be intersting to know how many lanterns they have been selling in recent years, but I don't suppose there is much demand for complete lanterns anymore so their problem will be finding a supplier who is willing to do small production runs on an occasional basis at a viable cost. Might not be easy to find.
There is still a huge market for these lamps, the issue I suspect is that they won't want to pay Tilley prices and will be buying them from China for peanuts instead.... I'm suprised Tilley haven't gone to one of the companies producing Petromax clones and the like.
