Looks like a Coleman 500 to me but I'm no stove expert.

Go to the top of this page and click on the button marked 'CCS' when a whole new world of delights will open up to you... ;)

This looks like gasoline/petrol stove from Coleman. However I'm not sure which model.

Yeh it's a 500, like this one I just bought but mine has windshields so it looks a bit different. Good stove if you can get it to work.

As David said, it's a Coleman 500 Speedmaster, US made, I think, and earlier than 1954, they simplified the "Spider web" grate / pot stand in 1954. Production began in 1938 (the earliest one I've seen, a Canadian model) and continued with some slight modifications until about 1960. A very nice stove, one of my favorites, with a large range of power.

And here's mine - just about as received and in much worse condition than Matt's example.

    It's Canadian and dated D42 i.e. fourth quarter 1942.

Mine has a few dents a.k.a. 'character' to our US chums... ;)

Mine didn't look a lot better when I bought it David, took some hours cleaning. I dare say yours would fire up without too much trouble, if the generator isn't blocked.

My next mission is to make an identical trivet in stainless steel so that I can use the stove without worrying about the original rusting away.

It's worth up to $1000 (in the same way your broadband speed is 'up to' 38Mb/s) ;)

We don't do valuations here - not even stoves. Given that there are so many variables involved, it's impossible for anyone to predict 'value'...

Looks like its "burning back" as it is glowing from the end of the vaporiser/Generator and not showing any flame at the burner. Or is that paint or such.

Will do Ray, any thoughts on what grade stainless to use, I see different ones on Ebay but my mind says stainless is stainless. Bearing in mind it's in direct contact with the flame and gets red hot in use. Or am I barking up the wrong tree completely.

4mm Ray, I saw some in b&q but it was just plain drawn steel. It would probably be alright though, keep me going for a fair old time before I make another one. Looking at brazing torches as well.
