Derek Brinkley has this item on Ebay at the moment, camping_fishing_cooking, one of his other Ebay handles statelands123, has also bid on the item.

The scam is run by Derek, his son Paul and his sister-in-law in common Lynzi.

List of the names that they use on Ebay

    bargainhuntderek, camping_fishing_cooking, lanterns_stoves_vapalux, lynzi2709, mydadscollectionuk, pbrinkley-2012. delbotts_china, statelands123

A couple of months back I bought an item from 'kathy1952uk' of Norwich and the 'seller', a man, phoned me almost instantly about delivery and payment. We had several conversations subsequent to the sale. During these we got on talking about a group of shill-bidders in Lincolnshire who'd been banned from eBay for two weeks as a result. He also gave me the eBay names of some folk who'd tried to buy the item on the side and how much they'd offered. [-X

Anyway, the item was well-packed and arrived at the speed of a bullet having been sent (much to my surprise) by Derek Brinkley of Lincoln, not Kathy of Norwich. I did post about it on CCS - http://www.spiritburner.com/fusion/showtopic.php?tid/37780/ - but most people completely missed the point.

I've no idea whether I was shilled or not but the end price was reasonable considering what the item was. But it's another name that can be added to the list. I take it you'll be reporting the current listing to eBay, Ian...

Yes, I did report it to Ebay David

I put the message below on Ebay discussion board "shill bidding", it was deleted within seconds as I expected, for the following reason.
I also reported him on the report item link, which can be found just above the item number.

It seems that no-one can be named and shamed, who is corrupt on Ebay

    Hi 4257_insley,

I’m sorry to let you know that your recent post, "Why does ebay do nothings regard shill bidding?", has been removed as it violates the Board Usage Policy, which prohibit:

"Refusing to follow eBay staff instruction or direction. From time to time eBay staff may issue specific instructions or guidelines relating to the use of the chat boards or other areas of the site. For example, we may request that members refrain from certain discourteous behaviours. Failure to comply with any instructions you may receive will result in post removal.".

In this case your post has been removed for naming and shaming as it included information about another user.

    You posted the following:

"If you want to see a shill bidding scam, camping_cooking_fishing has Ebay Item 321616421346
up for auction at the moment. It finishes tomorrow 23rd December.
Item is : TILLEY TABLE LAMP MODEL TL13 DATED FROM 1935 -1940

statelands123 has also bid on the item - its one of his pseudonyms that he uses on Ebay

Its a family member scam, consisting of father, son, and sister-in-law

We have reported these people to Ebay time and time again

Come on Ebay, do something about him !!!!!

No doubt Ebay will remove this post".

You can review our Board Usage Policy here, Community content policy here and the policy on naming and shaming found here.
Thank you for your attention in this matter, and for your participation in the community. :smileyhappy:

    Regards,

Could we do something along the lines of what was done on a well known Airgun Forum when knock off Leupold telescopic sites were being sold as genuine?

The members there bid up the items sometimes to the millions of pounds time and time again until the item was removed

I have his address should you wish to pay him a visit and, er, discuss the matter. ;)

Surely there's an official channel to report shill-bidding if 'naming and shaming' isn't allowed...

I've reported him to Ebay (again):

Click on 'Report Item' (above item number).
    Select 'Listing practices'.
    Select 'Fraudulent listing activities'.
Select 'Seller is using other accounts to inflate item price'.
    Hit 'continue'.

If enough of us do it, Ebay may take some action.

    Terry

Damn, bought a cheap M320 from that guy a while back for giggles. Glad I didnt pay more than a song for it as the burner was nackered. The price and shipping were ok but he didnt manage to have any spares around (even though in one picture of his listing I saw around 9 founts in various stages of polishing). Caveat emptor I guess :(

Perhaps get the police involved if a crime is being committed or threaten eBay with such action?

Worked for me in the past with the Phoenix Park lot!

Well, it went for £141 in the end. Did one of the family 'win' it, Ian?

    Yes, David, statelands123 won it.

Its worth having a look at statelands123 feedback as well, see how much his alto ego camping_fishing_cooking has traded with himself. If cfc doesn't give himself feedback, he has probably given a 2nd chance offer to the next bidder.

He and Ebay are on a win win.

ateallthepies - if you do a search on the Ebay links, Ebay give links to the police, to cover their arse.

I would be interested to know how getting the police involved worked for you

OK, since as far as I'm aware, your eBay anonymised identity persists, would that mean that statelands123 is s***s? Or do you keep a track of these people by their feedback score?

Second chance bidder didn't want it:-

    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/TILLEY-TABLE-LAMP-MODEL-TL13-DATED-FROM-1935-1940-/221644075703?pt=UK_SportsLeisure_Camping_LightsLanternsTorches&hash=item339b0432b7

Oh dear. The only winner in that transaction was eBay, then - no wonder they don't ban him...

That depends if he cancels the transaction David, that wipes out all ebay fees. But ebay may take action against him if he did that but over £15 worth of fees would go on that lamp alone so he'd want it back. :-k

A crime is being comitted, but getting them to investigate is about as likely as getting eBay to permenantly ban these people and deal with the issue properly...

If anything they encourage it with anonymous bids and various other scam enhancing rules that they DO apply.

eBay have through neglect and enforcing poorly thought out rules created a haven for dishonest sellers and buyers. As a seller you can't even leave negative feedback for bad buyers in order to warn others.

In short, in the context of this thread it's where an eBay seller gets family and/or friends to enter bids for their item with a view to increasing the final selling price...

A shill bidder means a false or phoney bidder who is bidding on behalf of the seller not to win the auction but to drive up the sale price.

    Ebays interrepation of shill bidding

    http://sellercentre.ebay.co.uk/shill-bidding-policy

Its always worth looking at Ebays policies on everything, the information is always at hand on the site, and always worth having a read on the discussion board.

Read the page and all I saw are toothless words. No complaint process that obliges Ebay to do anything about it.

Yes it's quite clear that in some cases their "enforcement" policy amounts to a slap on the wrist at worst...

In the case being discussed here it's hard to see why they are still being allowed to commit fraud with complete impunity.

Perhaps it's time these people were reported to trading standards rather than eBay... with a fine of upto £5,000 per ofference that could hit them where it really hurts!!

Trading standards haven't got the dosh to sue all the shill bidders on Ebay

    Nice thought though

They can and do take action though... http://www.out-law.com/page-11205

They certainly won't if no one reports it though and eBay sure aren't going to.

Looks more like an OL50 to me but he says it's 500 cp. Either misinformed or deliberately trying to con an unsuspecting buyer.
