I was asked on CCS to post some images (however they belong here), of a meths filler I had made using the thin tube which was all that remained from an original unit that had rusted beyond repair. I had initially tried a few cans but decided on copper pipe from the plumbing supply shop. I'm sure lots of people have made similar or even better ones. The point of conversation on CCS was really that I suggested brass welch plugs, from car repair shops, work well in the end and simplify the task.

The following pictures show how it turned out. A small breather hole was required and can be seen. I know some use a false bottom to get everything working better, but I'm happy with mine.
